Feedback Extortion Question

I had a buyer purchase an item, they sent me messages stating they had received the correct items and were happy with them but wanted me to leave them positive feedback. I generally only leave feedback for buyers after I have received positive feedback because let's face it sellers are the ones doing the work and should receive feedback for that work. The buyer then proceeded to leave me multiple messages containing profanity, threatened negative feedback and made other comments. They then left negative feedback stating that the "idiot seller" sent the "wrong item". Uh no I have the message where they admit they received the correct items, were happy with them and all the other messages containing profanity and threats of negative feedback for what is essentially a service not including in the listing which is me leaving positive feedback for the buyer doing zero work.

Does anyone else think this is a example of feedback extortion? I have already gave the buyer a chance to save themselves by sending a feedback revision request before I personally call eBay.

Thoughts?

Re: Feedback Extortion Question

The sellers should do all the work..They are getting paid for their item..Why should a buyer wait for feedback if they paid promptly for the item..Their part is finished and their fedback should not be hijacked because you feel you should get feedback first. What if they are unhappy and leave negative feedback..Are you then going to be responible enough to leave them a positive knowing they did what they were supposed to do? I really don't think you would so basically without saying it..you want positive feedback for positive feedback left for you and that's extortion in itself.

Re: Feedback Extortion Question

This is why I post feedback for buyers that says "thanks for paying".

GOOD GRIEF!...what kind of psychopath people E-Bay has breed over the years.Get rid of feedback for buyers...if they cant get negs they shouldn"t get any at all. Buy your items and be happy when you get them. Thats what buyers should expect and nothing else.

Re: Feedback Extortion Question

What harm would it have been if you were just "the bigger man" and left feedback first?? As I alway say "you cant spend feedback" You most likely cost yourself a repeat sale

Re: Feedback Extortion Question

I haven't had a request or demand for feedback. Nor do I leave feed back until after the buyer does.

My position is; if feedback wasn't important enough for them to post it, it's certainly not important to me to bother with it either.

So... If requested of threatened, my response might be. Since feed back is important to you, please feel free to start the process.

I don't know if eBay's customer service reps assign some sort a case number to the call to them I'm suggesting here however. Call eBay's CS and complain you have been threatened with neg FB by a buyer who's tone sounds vindictive, or hostile.

Since their ultimate goal may very well be  to give you a negative.  You might give them the FB first and be sure  include that customer service case number you have been assigned when you called CS  for advice.  Oh and among all the various types of FB sellers have to choose from be sure to click the labeled Positve.

A possible FB from you might be.  Thanks. Should have concerns write me & CS with this number ............

Your first remark is not true at all.

Sellers can't leave anything BUT positives, so it really is pointless to wait and see if they leave something else, because they can't.

Once a buyer receives the item and makes sure it is what they ordered is when they 'should' elave their FB, good, bad or otherwise.  That signals the end of the transaction.

'Should' because well .....  FB is voluntary and nobody should or shouldn't.

This is why some of us gave up drinking. We didn’t realize how crazy we were, when others tried to tell us.

Re: Feedback Extortion Question

either party waiting on the other is a form of extortion. even though sellers can only leave positive, they can still withhold it. not nearly as extreme as when sellers could leave anything less than 100% but (some) buyers and sellers still determine their feedback, or lack of, on the others response.  if the one does everything right and the other screws up, shouldnt one get good feedback and the other not so good? i feel feedback should be given on both buyer and seller and neither can veiw until both give it. bad buyers should definately be able to receive fb stating that too!

Absolutely. I agree!

Feedback is something that buyers, the way eBay is set up, can use to judge a Seller's performance and integrity. The reverse is not true of a Buyer with 100% FB.

I agree. Would take away a lot of ills plaguing the FB system. I believe this is why Turo, the rental car start-up, does it this way.

I have seen many sellers who said the customer does not deserve positive feedback just because the customer  paid fast and is pleased with the item.

We see sellers frequently who tell their customers that  the customer  has to leave positive feedback to deserve a feedback from the seller, and most of those sellers say they do it that way because it is best for their business.

Some sellers leave feedback because they appreciate the money received from the buyer.  It looks like the buyer did not appreciate the seller's work enough to leave positive feedback without receiving feedback from the seller.

If I was the seller, I would try to get the negative the buyer left removed.  Then, I would start using eBay's feedback system where sellers can avoid the possibility of  a buyer leaving negative feedback because of not receiving feedback.

Their part is not finished at payment, anymore than a seller's part is finished at shipping.

Buyer gets item, if pleased, posts positive, if not pleased, should message the seller with the concern.  When buyer posts positive, seller will post for the buyer.

Feedback is voluntary, it is not owed anyone.  You pay, you get your widget.

Simple as that.  Nothing else is owed anyone.

and having a concern (problem buyer) will effect them getting feedback!
