Why does eBay allow so many counterfeit items on here? I’ve reported so many and they send back “they found nothing wrong.”

If you go to YouTube and type in “reselling AirPods”, “reselling cologne”, “reselling Nikes”, etc there’s people bragging about how much they make selling on eBay. How they purchase 1:1 fakes on DHgate and resell on eBay as real. Yet, eBay allows it.  I found someone who made a video describing what they are doing and reported it to eBay. Nothing happened.

@cashmoneyp,

"Why does eBay allow so many counterfeit items on here"?

With millions of new items being posted daily on ebay, there is no possible way they can verify the authenticity of each and every item listed.  In some categories of items ebay does offer authentication services, Sneakers, handbags, Watches & Jewelry, Street wear, and Trading cards.  For other items buyers need to do their due diligence to try and detect counterfeited items before buying them.

"I’ve reported so many and they send back “they found nothing wrong.”

eBay has started using AI to to check reports of fake or counterfeited items.  Unfortunately, they do not seem to realize that, that is one job AI is not able to do.  Even humans cannot always detect listings for counterfeited items, because the Mfrs. allow their own stock photos and descriptions to be copied off the net. With out being able to actually handle each item it is impossible to verify authenticity.

One way to avoid buying counterfeit items is o check each seller's feedback profile page and look for negative and neutral feedback about receiving counterfeited items. Another way is not to buy any brand named products from China based sellers. The items may be made in China, but chinese sellers are not allowed by international trade law, to sell them outside of their own country.

They have found ways around the laws, one way is by setting up companies like DHGate that actually fools some sellers who get stock from them.  Another is the Chinese have set up huge warehouses in the U.S. and China based sellers register their ebay business in the U.S., using the warehouses locations, usually close to port cities or large air cargo airports to hide their actual location.

 Because of that trying to weed out those sellers is difficult.  If you open the link below and click on the Go To Best Answer button, you can read about the ways to detect those sellers, and how to view feedback profiles.

One last thing.  If you receive an item and on inspection find it is a counterfeited one, you are protected by ebay's Money Back Guarantee (MBG) for up to 30 days after receiving the item. There's a link to the MBG policies and time frames, on each listing page beneath the payment methods icons, under the Shop With Confidence header, click on the Learn more button.

Good post by @mudshark61369 that explains the reasons. The last part above I did highlight as well because it is the most important part for buyers to understand how they are protected. Every buyer and seller should familiarize themselves with the eBay MBG.

EBay will not react to a single member complaining about counterfeits, because that member may be a competitor, a vigilante, or just plain wrong.

They do respond to reports by multiple members.

They also respond to Claims from unhappy Buyers who demand refunds.

Since you are acting like a vigilante (from the best motives) reporting items multiple times and reporting many different items, and are not a Buyer, there is little to encourage eBay to give anything other than a polite thank you for your interest.

It's not allowed but there are so many listings eBay can't catch them all.   Fakes for sale at flea-markets are very common.
