I have been buying (not selling) on ebay for over two years now. I ALWAYS pay immediately.  I made an offer on an item today and waited to hear back from the seller. They said they accepted it, so I figured they would send me a link to pay for it. The next thing I knew, I am getting an email saying that the item is being shipped to me. I have read about this Autopay option on these message boards, so I think I understand why Ebay did this. But I did not want to put a $250 purchase on a debit card that only had $280 on it. I wanted to choose another payment option, of which I have several, including two other credit cards and also Paypal Credit. But since I was not asked how I wanted to pay, my bank account was almost over drawn! I still want the item, so I don't want to complain to the seller, but this is NOT RIGHT! Now I'm afraid to make any offers, because I may not have enough money in my bank account to cover it. It's great I guess for the seller, but it kind of screws that buyer. I have a long history of paying the same day I buy the item. Why could Ebay not try this out on buyers that don't have that kind of track record? This is **bleep**!

If I’m not mistaken, when you make an offer it asks you what your payment method is. At that time you would change the method of payment you wish to use.

How is eBay’s payment processor supposed to know you have limited funds on a credit card?
Most credit cards I’ve ever had, if the item I’m purchasing exceeds the amount on the card it gets declined. If it was a debit card attached to a bank account, that would be overdrawn if the payment for the item exceeds what’s in the bank.

@gods-8276  When you made the offer you picked how to pay.

IF you wanted to pay with a different card the time to do that was when you made the offer.

It is all spelled out when you are making an offer.

You could just pay and forgo the whole offer thing but then you will still have to put in the card you want to use.

I will no longer bid or make best offers. My use of Ebay is going to drop to almost nothing. Great move EBay.

Your choice no question but I get the" best offers "part but  bidding is the same as it has always been.  so why would it effect your "bidding" here on eBay?
