New Member intro

I have been a button collector ever since I started mental detecting about 20 years ago. I have an extensive found collection of buttons going back to 18th and prob 17th c, many CW, etc., and large collection of the standard references, at least for metal buttons: Albert, Tice, Bazelon/McGuinn etc. Over the years I have also eyeballed many a china and black glass button. I've also recovered vast numbers of buttons at a paper mill dump site; I posted about this paper mill dump phenom quite a bit on the e-mail buttonlist maybe 4-5 years ago. I suspect a few on here may have been around in those days. I was on several button listservs including milbuttons a few years ago but drifted away; probably should get back into those. It is my goal to VASTLY expand my eBay offerings to include many things including buttons, books being my main thrust, and to basically start liquidating my collection as I can't take it with me, yada yada. Since I believe in give and take I will be hoping to get some IDs on what I am weak on: 20th c buttons, and will help as much as possible on any military buttons, Golden Age, etc. where I can be of assistance. Re: New Member intro

Hi everyone, I am ebay seller (nothing listed today) but usually sell authentic Coach bags, designer children's clothing, etc. I purchased several buttons that were part of the collection of one of the co-authors of The Big Book of Buttons. They were auctioned off in 1993. I'm not familiar with buttons and really don't know where to start. All suggestions are appreciated. Thanks! Patti (APersonalshopper)

Re: New Member intro

Hi Patti, Welcome to the group! I am new too. I like 'The Collectors Encylopedia of Buttons' by Sally C. Liscomb. Lot's of great pictures and easy to find what you need to know. I started collecting and learning by just watching all the vintage buttons for sale on eBay. I originally got interested in buttons because I thought they would make great jewelry. I still have that in mind when buying and have narrowed my interests somewhat to smaller buttons. Especially southwest themes. In addition to the buttons I also design, manufacture and sell my own line of rubber stamps on eBay Lee

Hi Patti and everyone posing here. You may have found some good buttons if they came from one of the BBB authors. Feel free to post some images in the photo gallery if you can. I'd love to see what you've acquired. -Carol-

Re: New Member intro

Hi, had been more active in this group a few years ago and decided to look in tonight. Hello to Svengali, nice to see that you are still here. Hope you are all doing well and enjoying the discussions. I am still collecting buttons, there are boxes and bags of them to my immediate left, many of them are stored in a large plastic bin of which I have learned to keep the lid open. Also have learned to store them in net bags for air circulation. I would like to be able to sort them in a better way, categorize them and sell some. But for one reason or another have not be able to give the time to do this. So I will be looking in and learning again. I still do not know how to positiely identify bakelite. Its so helpful--how much you can learn from these posts and discussions. My question for tonight is this: Are the peace cross buttons from the 70s, I believe , of any value?

Not a new member but have tons of buttons from auctions, lots of them rhinestone, real pearl, and I know nothing about buttons. Now where do I start here? Are there and id pages here or anything? Joyce -- If Not Now When?

Re: New Member intro

you could look at buttons on ebay to get a feel for what they are and how much selling for..I have a wonderful site on my button blog called BUTTON COUNTRY ..the buttons are not for sale but all kinds of buttons are there..go to google and type in Pegs Button Blog..when you get there..scroll down and you will see a clickable BUTTON COUNTRY..also the National Button Society has good info. on buttons.. that is also on my all about button blog..good luck!
