I can't make out the signature, but it sure looks like the first name starts with the same letter as the inscription does. Since the first word is two letters, and the second one is "o", I think the first letter has to be a "T".

If it is Galbraith, he wrote his memoir in 1981 so I wonder if it says To my colleague in these pages ...,
Looking at examples of his signature it is a mess most of the times. I did find one where the J looks like the first letter in this signature.
I wonder if his colleague's last name is McM_____ like McMullen
