I've been inactive for a few years. I tried to sign-in using what I remember was my username/pw.

Would not acknowledge same. Is there a time limit? Does EBAY delete accounts after a certain time period of inactivity?

eBay does delete inactive accounts to prevent fraud.  They don't tell us how long an account is inactive before they delete it.

Have you tried signing in with your email address?  If eBay recognizes that, they will send you a link to reset your password.  You will then see your ID.
