Someone else printed shipping label in another state

I had a buyer report they I shipped them the wrong item after just barely 24 hours of it being shipped. There was no way the item I shipped had time to arrive.  The wrong item they supposedly got had my shipping label on it . The packaging was different packaging than I use . Tracking on USPS shows that my label was printed in another state and then shipped from that state. Tracking also shows where I had the label printed at my post office. I’m wondering if the buyer scammed the system by manipulating shipping or if USPS had a glitch and sent my shipping label to someone else and they had it printed at their post office without paying attention it wasn’t the right label and that’s why my buyer got that wrong item. The buyer also claims the item I shipped still hasn’t arrived. Now eBay says I have to offer a return or I won’t get my money. So now I’m going to get some gross item returned to me that isn’t even mine. And who knows if I’ll be compensated for the return label and the correct item. I did nothing wrong but am basically paying the consequences.  Anyone else have something similar like this happen. Is this a scam?

Hi @courwh_8359

-Did the Buyer send a picture of the package with your label on it?

-When you generate a label QR code I would assume USPS has record of it in their system containing the ship to address, return address and tracking number contained in the code.

-Yes, it is possible that the QR code within USPS's system was sent somewhere else ... it is just a file on a large mainframe computer system.  Stranger things have happened.

-If that indeed happened then another Seller printed a label, attached it to a package (or had the postal clerk do that) and without checking let the package be shipped. Depending on the postal clerk they may have missed the fact that the return address on the label was nowhere near where their post office is located.

-If your schedule permits, post here what you get back from that Buyer it the return is completed.
