I'm willing to pick up the item in person is there a way I can do that to avoid the shipping cost?

Is the listing in question set up as local pick up only?  If not, you need to pay the shipping.  Sorry, but buyers do not dictate shipping.  As a seller, I would not want a buyer coming to my house nor would I want them to meet me somewhere.
