Possible Scam??

Hi,

I bought a new samsung s22 ultra from a seller on ebay on November 28. The seller entered the tracking number on ebay on December 5 with delivery date being today (December 10).  

This morning the seller messaged me a different tracking number saying they shipped the phone and charger separately. When I entered the phone's tracking # in USPS, it has been stuck on the below status since December 6:

Departed Shipping Partner Facility, USPS Awaiting Item

JAMAICA, NY 11434 

December 6, 2024, 4:32 am

Shipping Partner: ZDA EXPRESS

This looks like a scam since I've ordered phones before from others and there is no need to send the charger separately. Also, why would the charger be shipped from California and phone from New York?

And if the phone is new the only way they can ship both separately is by opening the box which doesn't make it new anymore.

@hapa-8394  Sorry your purchase didn't go smoothly.  You can and should file a not received refund request tomorrow when the package is a day late.  

Look for the last estimated delivery date in your purchase history. You can file a refund request when the item is at least a day late.  

You have 30 days from the last estimated delivery date to file a refund request on eBay.

4 business days after you file the refund request ask eBay to step in and help if the seller has not refunded you.

If it is more than 30 days past the last estimated delivery date then you can file a refund request on PayPal up to 180 days from the date of purchase. OR if you didn't use PayPal at checkout contact your bank or credit card to report that you didn't receive the item.

Thanks for the advice, 

Since the seller messaged me a second tracking number for the phone itself, would I have to wait for it to show as delivered before getting a refund? 

I know it's a scam because they waited until the last minute to send me the new tracking even though it had been shipped since December 6. 

Also by definition it cannot be a new phone if it doesn' t come with the original charger and a different one has to be sent separately

@hapa-8394   The not received case should be able to be started tomorrow since that was the original last estimated delivery date.  eBay MAY extend the time the case stays open if tracking shows movement to your location.  

If you receive something that is not as described then return for a full refund within 30 days of the date of delivery.

Thanks a lot! Hopefully ebay refunds it, if not would a chargeback through American Express be a good idea?

@hapa-8394  Exhaust all options with eBay first before going to American Express once you contact American express ebay will no longer be able to help you at all.

The credit card charged back would be your last stop.
