Missing order? Purcased a book a week ago & is supposed to have arrived today but seller has not even shipped the item? How can I reach ebay for help. Sent message to seller but he/she is not responding? I can’t figure out the automated e bay system? Does ebay have a cutomer service number or a chat line?
Am 74 years old. Very confused

No need to call Ebay.
How do you know the seller has not shipped if they have not responded to you?
Look in your Purchase History for the estimated date of delivery.
IF/WHEN the latest estimated date of delivery has already passed by at least 1 day, you have up to 30 days past estimated date of delivery to file a Refund Request:
Go to your My Ebay page >> Purchase history
If the seller does not respond after 3 days, you can ask Ebay to step in to help you.

The status shows it should have arrived today but it also shows it never shipped?

Delivery dates are estimates only. If your item was estimated to arrive today, it is not "missing" yet.
Wait a few days then follow the directions I have provided in message #2 in order to request a refund.
