Is there a way a seller can prevent eBay from using certain shipping methods?

Until this year, I never had to use a shipping service which was not an option in my eBay listings.    I'm not sure why or how things changed, but I have had eBay tell me to take a heavy package to UPS when there is no UPS drop-off facility in my town.  More recently, a customer paid extra for FedEx Home but eBay told me she had selected FedEx Smart Post.  Neither FedEx Smart Post nor UPS were options when I listed those items.  The FedEx package was delivered to the wrong address by FedEx.  eBay considers the delivery complete, but USPS never received the package and FedEx will not allow me or the buyer to file a claim, nor will FedEx ask the driver where he/she left the package.

I know that eBay makes it easy for sellers to designate countries to which they will not ship.  Is there any way sellers can designate shipping methods they will not use?

You select the shipping options for your listings - you should always ship by the method that the buyer purchased unless you and the buyer have agreed to a different method.

eBay never insists that you send an item a particular way.  When you print a shipping label, you are free to choose the method you want to use. If it is on the ups tab when you go to create your label, and you want to use usps, just click the usps tab.

eBay is phasing out parcel select, which could cause it to look like they are suggesting a different method, although it usually defaults to priority flat rate. But again, just select the method advertised or agreed upon. If you need parcel select, you can print a label through paypal, and load the tracking # into eBay.

@ccex   Adding to the other excellent answer.  I do not recommend using Fed Ex unless you do so through your own Fed Ex account.  When you use eBay labels then eBay is the Fed Ex customer so then you have to try and get eBay to dispute any overcharges or misdeliveries, which just doesn't happen.   Fed Ex is known for adding surcharges and billing you for them.

Personally, I only ship USPS so I know what my shipping costs are when I ship the item.

I just looked at an active listing and the shipping shows Fed Ex, and that is because you selected economy shipping, which Fed Ex Ground and UPS Ground are.  Stop selecting economy shipping and you won't be offering Fed Ex or UPS.

Most of my items weigh less than 10 pounds packaged, so I only select first class package (if under 15.99 ounces) and priority.  Fed Ex and UPS are not convenient for me so I do not use them (although I did ship UPS with my own account back in the day).
