Storage solution

Storage solution

Some of my better thoughts come while in the shower ~ ya, I know, "A clean mind" . . . .

After looking at the lovely new ribbon/storage holder we all would swipe at midnight if possible, here are a couple of Plan B options ~
Look at your local office supply place for a hutch. I found one at a yard sale for $2.00 that is 4' long, two shelves. Get a piece of dowling from local hardware store, have slightly larger holes drilled through the upright posts of the hutch. [----[----] See the dowel in the middle just above the shelves?? My online artwork sucks.

Plan C, your old cafe curtain rods/holders. Use the ones that have brackets that hold the rod out 2-4 inches from the wall, and are sturdy. Might need a mid support, depending on how long the rod would be. Also, find a stud or use molly bolts when attaching the brackets to the wall. Use nylon cable ties to attach something like the Sterlite 10-12 inch baskets with holes in the sides. ($$ Store, WM, etc, cheapie $1 - $1.50 each) They should sit at an angle so you can see what's in the basket & the holes allow you to poke your ribbon through the holes. The nylon cable ties you might know better ~ having seen on TV of course ~ as the things the police use as temporary handcuffs these days. You could stack/layer this system very easily on the wall & save valuable floor space.

OK, my design morning is over.

While I was luking on another scrapbook board, I ran across this ingenious method of ribbon storage. She uses pegs to hang her O-rings filled with ribbons grouped by colors. Each ribbon is hung on the O-ring by a safety pin. I asked permission to share this pic (I hope I post it correctly), and she was more than willing to share.

OH my gosh, that is so organized! I dont know if I have it in me, but I love the look! Oh the amount of safety pins though, and you could just run the o-rings on a curtain rod and hang in the doorway of my walk in closet (that was how I was doing my spools prior to my "new rack") It would looks like a hippy doorway from the 70's. antq.freak

When I saw that, I thought of antq.freak's empty door rack. Knew she would read the post ~ Isn't that a great use of space?

gran- Actually, I thought about posting it in Ant.'s post because that's what made me think of it, but then I thought since yours was titled storage solution, this would be a good place. I hope I didn't hi-jack your thread!

Okay, my thoughts and plans are still fermenting. When I'm in the shower they are getting clean! I'm thinking of something along those lines Granne but with a twist so that it can come apart easily the next time I have to move.

Does anyone know the smallest diameter of PVC pipe there is? Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
