Mexico Sterling Not Jewelry sorta a whatzit cig case maybe?

Mexico Sterling Not Jewelry sorta a whatzit cig case maybe?

I know its not jewelry but I figured i'd ask here and the collectibles board too, y'all always know more than jewels :slightly_smiling_face: This looks like a cigarette case, but I was also thinking perhaps it was more a cigar case, because the band is metal and most of the cigarette cases i've seen have an elastic band.
The stamp reads TB-113 .925 Mexico. I'm thinking 50's-60's, would that be close?

Oh yeah, should I clean it? I really like CLEAN silver LOL TIA!!

Depending on the size, it could be a business card case??? Is it too big for that? Or for folded bills???

KETCHUP!!! Hah!

Geting to say that a lot, lately.

Pandy's got a good point - depending on the dimensions, it could either be a cig case (for hand-rolled), or a "calling card" case.... Back in the day, you didn't have to write your name/address/# on the back of a Walmart receipt... & further back, a basket was in the entrance hall, for 'gentleman callers' to leave a card, if they knocked on the door & a lady was "indisposed" or out.

It might be lined w/ stainless steel, though, which would date it more recently, & also indicate that it was for cigarettes (tobacco would eventually stain the inside).... HOWEVER, if it was intended for cards, the interior *would* be fairly clean. itzFray/orkiPay

Size? A vintage cigarette case would most likely not be sized for filter cigarettes. Think the size of a rolling paper, ZigZag width.

Well on the collectibles board we figured out it wasn't quite that old, based on the Hallmark its probly from the 70's. It measures 4 inches long and 2 and a 1/2 wide.

It doesn't smell like tobaccy, (me smoke) and the inside is fairly clean except for the corners. I just didn't think the metal band was practical for holding cigs in place. _______________________________

Looks more like rust on the top (base metal, maybe tin).

Why would you say that? OP clearly stated and PICTURED how the case is marked. Haven't you ever seen dirty and tarnished silver? When ever something vintage is posted it seems you have to have a catty reply or else a reply that is totally off base.

Back to the original question......
Yes, at that size, the case is newer, don't know when the metal was first used to hold the ciggies but I have had several with the metal and some were older.

Naw Adove...not rust its just good ole fashioned silver junk....which is completely gone now that i've cleaned it up.

Thank you boji :slightly_smiling_face: I certainly appreciate everyone's input, I ask a lot of questions! _______________________________

If I can't see it in person, I can only say what it looks

Tin is an element that can't rust (although it can corrode); only iron and steel can rust.

New issue with this one. Asking for help again, the hallmark after cleaned up looks like it says .923 not .925 I can't find anything about .923. We have louped it, magnified it, flipped it upside down everything and that last number just looks like a 3 not a 5. So now what? _______________________________

That definitely looks like a cigarette case. However, these days depending on it's size, they can now be used as business card holders.

Boji's right..dont pay any attention to other insulting posts..its typical for some posters in here..I wouldnt be too worried if the case is marked .923, I saw a lot of those strange silver markings in London antique stores..tho I dont think they were UK items..can be from anywhere in Europe...pretty case...should do well. I didnt mean your case is from Europe..I understand its marked Mexico..just that many different countries have different standards than our .925 sterling. D.

I have the same exact case. It's marked, but I tested it anyway, and it is sterling. Like Dee said...don't pay any attention to the nay sayer. She's constantly telling people that the stuff they bring to the boards are fake. Silver, pearls, it really doesn't matter to them. And to have such an opinion is actually a really neat trick since she can come to her conclusion from a picture on a computer screen! Man, that's talent!! 25% Club C.O.O., CBMW
