I'm trying to list a copy of The Little Prince with a dust jacket that has a $3.75 price. I've been using this site: http://www.lepetitprince.net/sub_ochibo/americanprince-E.html
I think my copy dates to the mid-50s, but I can't seem to nail it down based on:
1. In 1959 that website shows the price going to $3.95 and the address on the front flap to 750 Third Avenue. I have the 750 Third Ave address but a $3.75 price
2. There is no printing number on my copyright page
3. The spine of the book shows Reynal and Hitchcock, the spine of the DJ shows Harcourt Brace and Company
4. I can't tell the difference between "cork" and "beige"
Thoughts? Is there a better way for me to figure this out?
Thanks!

According to the site to which you've linked, it would be "circa 1956," but Sine Datum is always Sine Datum, so the real question is, "once you've proven that the jacket is original to the book, will anyone care?"
.
Thanks Joe. How could one ever prove a jacket is original to a book other than a sworn statement from the original purchaser and subsequent owners? Actually, even that would not be absolute proof.

Sound provenance helps, as will the "tells" on the binding if the jacket is chipped at the head or heel. I think (strictly personal opinion) that since it's not 1943, and represents a book which has been reprinted about every nine seconds since the First appeared, that it's a moot point.

But mine is really pretty and almost certainly circa 1956!
Do not get bogged down in the minutia (unless warranted). Time is money.
Excellent advice, thank you. At this stage, it's not that easy for me to determine when it's warranted but I'm confident I'll get better at it.
