I wonder if it could be upside down and it's a W? Whiting's mark has some similarities though you mark is more simple:

Where are you? Where did you get it? Do you know anything about it? If you have an idea of where it came from it would make it easier to research the mark

Yes, I think it is a Frank Whitting piece.  Got it out of an old estate. A few other rare pieces in the lot.
