Asian Wood Carving, Dog, Vietnamese - help?

Can anyone tell me about my Vietnames, carved dog? I purchased him in the '80s at an antiques shop. He is very detailed  (anatomically correct ), has a hidden compartment  ( closure is missing  ) and is 11 inches tall.
