I'm completely confused about the 250 word thing in descriptions. I put a blank line between each sentence, and they say each of those accouts for 50 words, so my blank lines alone use up my 250 characters. So what does the 800 word limit mean?
Also I put a link to my other listings in my description --- what does that do?
I have no knowledge of html.

The seller update discussion board is getting some answers about those issues.

It isn't "word" ... it is "characters". Big difference. I don't think you can say a lot in 250 characters.

Fine metals that are plated or filled with another fine metal must be listed in the Fine Jewelry category.
Great. Filled and plated garbage is now FINE jewelry. FGS eBay, that's the stupidest thing you've EVER done!
I was thinking the same thing. ebay never ceases to surprise me.

I was trying to read there but didn't find many answers, or at least, any answers that I understood. I hate feeling this stupid about a subject and it frustrates me.
Yes, I mistyped word instead of charactor about but why do they say they will pull 250 charactors to display but then state if the description is les than 800 that they will use it all?
Starting in summer, sellers who wish, can tag the specific content they want included or, better yet, if the item description is less than 800 charcters and text only (some basic HTML allowed) we will show the complete description -so, sellers have more control.

There is no such thing as Plated Karat Gold, platinum, or any other precious metal.
Those are commecial terms intended to deceive the general public into buying garbage.
There is NO PLATED OR FILLED METAL THAT IS CLASSIFIED AS PRECIOUS METAL!
I intend to take a hard look at the law regarding misrepresentation of precious metals and stones and will absolutely report eBay's unfair business practices to the FTC and US Attorney General over this new jewelry policy that REQUIRES CHINESE SELLERS TO LIST THEIR JUNK JEWELRY IN THE FINE JEWELRY CATEGORIES.
Somebody at eBay best take notice and get this c bleep ap fixed for the jewelry categories before I can do some research. I kid you not, eBay. Somebody at eBay better GET ON THE STICK!
What is the PROBLEM??
It is ACADEMIC, as ebay has been ALLOWING certain sellers to list that JUNK in FINE JEWELRY for some time, this just cuts down on the REPORTS for sellers mislisting in a category that it is NOT!

As of today I have not sold any jewelery but I have sold both Sterling Silver and Silver Plated Flatware ... I also had metalurgy as part of my college education and while I am not familiar with ALL "metal filling and plating" processes I do know you probably have an extremely valid point here. I have seen chrome applied to base metal at the Harley Davidson plant ... "plating" flatware is similar in that the silver plating is attached to a base metal. Gold "leaf" is applied to a base metal, on and on. I think for each type of metal structure (i.e. the base metal then the plated metal) there are specs for proper identification. I hope you can make some headway with eBay on this topic ... I "assume" country of origin is required when listing this type of jewelery?

What they MEAN is stuff like 14k gold over sterling, or others like that. It's clearer if you read fluent ebayese.
Of course, ebay CS isn't going to have a clue, and the china sellers couldn't care less, it's going to be ugly.

I agree with you 100%
But, reporting ebay will do absolutely nothing. zip. nada.
This is yet another trickle down consequence of our Government selling out American jobs and interests to foreign countries.
Ebay is just another corporation taking advantage of whats allowed.
Do not think for a minute the ebay legal team did not fully research this move already.
Really want to change things?
Take the anger you feel right now, and vote for people who are saying they will fix this unfair favoritism to everything anti America November 3rd.
Rally you friends and neighbors
Do we continue to bow to China?.....or are WE ready to STAND as the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA?
Its time to stand and fight.

I see it as if the piece of junk jewelry has a silver plated jump ring that attaches the lobster claw clasp that is silver colored, ebay will think that's some fine jewelry.

And that's how ebay CS will read it too, I'm sure, but the statement is one fine metal plated or filled with another fine metal, as the example I gave above.

Plated and filled metal is GARBAGE!
All the Chinese garbage now qualifies as fine
CZ set in Sterling Silver Plated ring.
^^^^ That is GARBAGE! THOSE RINGS SELL 10 FOR A PENNY.
eBay execs, buy your lovely wife a plated gold ring with a CZ. See how fast she files for divorce!
GARBAGE IS NOT FINE JEWELRY
GRRR GAAAAAH!
I BELIEVE EBAY IS NOW IN THE BUSINESS OF VIOLATING FEDERAL LAWS GOVERNING SALE OF NOBLE METALS!

It is IGNORED or just glossed over, as are MOST of the questions asked...
As with the mispelling, and most questions asked, they know EXACTLY what is written, but pretend they don't,or it is FIRST they have heard of it...
