Re: It's here! Spring 2016 Seller Update

I never involve myself with auctions that have reserves. As soon as i see the message, 'reserve not met', I am outta there asap. I won't buy an item that has a reserve, and won't sell one that way either.

Yep. Got that $75 off for three months offer as well - never acted on it and now feel like I dodged some major hassle of having to downgrade.

The Anchor store seemed to me to be a good option for the smaller - more serious sellers, but now that level has been blown up.

I really think they now do need something in between the premium and anchor stores as they have just made the gap ridiculous.  You jump from 1000 to 10000 listings a month or you pay a per item listing fee, which is what Ebay is trying to get happening.  They need to jump start revenues which have been down for at least 4 consecutive prior year qtr over current year qtr and they need to show an improvement of the stock price is really going to tank.

Personally I don't think this is going to do it, but I have only been selling online since 1994 (before ebay existed) so I am sure I do not know as much as all of those MBA'ers that Ebay has in Upper Management who are ashamed of the fact that they work for a glorified flea market and want so badly to be just like Amazon.

Re: It's here! Spring 2016 Seller Update

To your point about Buyers wanting it now, true in many cases but I still think the Auction style listings periods of 5, 7 and 10 Days work well.  I need to read a littel more, but are you saying that for a Store, any Auction listing with the BIN is an extra charge?

In my experience, in the categories I sell in - clothing mostly, the buyers want it now.  They will put in a min bid on an auction listing because it's cheap and since ebay shows them more that they can buy-pay for-and get shipped now - instead of 5 or 7 days, the odds are good that they will do that and abandon their bid.   I had at least twice as many UIDs on auction listings as BINs when i did auctions with BINs in a recent special.

For me a store is a money suck down the drain.  My sell thru is around 10% and a cost to list on the front end in the guise of store fees will eat any profit that might be left from the 10+% fvf and ship gouge on my meager sales.

Stores are ebay's way of getting consistant upfront money out of small sellers without having to do a thing.

Yes, for Stores there's a fee for adding a Buy It Now option to an auction-format listing. It's 5 to 25 cents depending on the BIN price.

Re: It's here! Spring 2016 Seller Update

I have to pay 20 cents to put a BIN on my "free" auctions. Not sure if that is true for all store levels.

Why? Some new sellers list an item starting at 14.99 or something and put a reserve of 20.00 on it.

You never know - and if the seller sees a lot of activity and is getting within their real price point, they may lower the reserve, putting it within reach.

I don't like reserves either, but you never know.

Re: It's here! Spring 2016 Seller Update

If new sellers list items that way it tells me they don't know what they're doing. Sometimes you can score awesome deals from those kinds of sales but most often the stuff I buy tends not to be worth buying.

Re: It's here! Spring 2016 Seller Update

Looks like I may have a 1-day window to upgrade my basic store from month-to-month at $19.95 to a 1-year subscription for $15.95/month. If I do that, is it safe to assume that I will get the increase # of listings with the new basic store format?  Thanks in advance!

Re: It's here! Spring 2016 Seller Update

You need to read the details better. The annual subscription price is not grandfathered in.  You'll pay the new rates starting in May whether you have a subscription or not. From the FAQ under "Features & fees":

  • Billing for the new pricing structure will begin with the May billing cycle. As a reminder, we bill Store subscriptions for the upcoming month. Sellers with billing cycles on the first of the month will see a prorated Store fee on their May 1 invoice since the first 5 days will be billed at the existing rate and the remainder of the month will be billed at the new rate effective on May 6, 2016. Sellers with billing cycles on the 15th will receive an invoice for the full month at the new subscription rate on May 15th since the new fees take effect May 6, 2016.

Re: It's here! Spring 2016 Seller Update

Two things I'll comment on.......

if ebay boxes are sizes I can use and I can get them free with the coupon, I'll use the coupon.....to me.....the branding argument fear is unfounded....millions of Amazon boxes go out and no thief is going after a box just because it says ebay.......

Gallery Plus is the larger size picture in search (had to look it up as always think it's the zoom feature)......NOW, it is free in Collectibles, Art, Pottery & Glass, and Antiques categories and it's automatically checked in TL.....

As far as I can see, after May 1, it's not free in any category...........SOOOO, it will be need to be removed from any listing over $150 upon relist after May 1.....

just a heads up......will be pleased if I'm wrong..........

Re: It's here! Spring 2016 Seller Update

For what its worth, I like the changes.

I'm a very small hobby seller and I usually don't sell anything over $20.

I live by the motto "Don't sell anything you can't afford to lose".

For me its a perpetual yard sale. I can work in my jammies all year round and don't have to set up tables outside and carry heavy boxes out.

Ebay is what it is. Take it or leave it.

Could have been worse!

Rose I agree but I'm like an ebay sheep that just follows along and does with what they say (except starting auctions at 99 cents lol). Store + auctions with BIN. Blind leaading the blind but I never change.

Thank you for pointing this out to me, I kinda just assumed <!!> that a subscription price for 1 year meant the same price for 1 year.  The company I work for sells SaaS and can only change pricing if customer is month-to-month or at end of a subcription period...!!

New yearly rate for basic store starting May is $19.95, Monthly will cost you $24.95
If you are month to month now you can stay month to month them move to Yearly whenever, However if you lock in to yearly you cannot go back to monthly.
With that said if you don't mind paying $24.95 to stay at monthly until you decide, then there is no rush for you to lock in .
