What happens if a buyer disputes the charge for the item that they wanted to return with their credit card?

·3 years agoDepending on the reason given in the chargeback, you might have protection from ebay. (There's another thread today from a seller who got a chargeback from a buyer and ebay had the seller's back.)
But know that closing your account won't stop ebay from sending you to collections and affecting your credit rating if they find that you owe money and don't pay.

·3 years agoThere is no 'response' after the initial notification/response as the CC Company simply tells eBay "too bad, so sad".
You can 'say' it was this/that but there is no proof so more than likely the buyer will win and you will lose.

OP3 years agoWhat if your Ebay account is closed out?

·3 years agoWhat happens is the buyer is the credit card's customer and they'll say it's not as described and you refused to accept a return so they'll get a refund and won't have to return it, and they'll charge you a $20 chargeback fee.

OP3 years agoIt was as described. The listing gave the size of the watch band and said that it was for a small wristed person. That's why Ebay closed out the case in my favor

·3 years agoThe buyer can tell their CC co. they have a 6 inch wrist and the band didn't fit and you won't let them return it. They're the CC co.'s customer and they don't want to lose customers they earn interest on, so guess who will win the chargeback? They might not file with their CC but if they do the CC outcome is going to favor the buyer.
Better to let them return it instead of taking a chance they won't file. At least you'll get your watch back instead of ending up with no watch and no money.

OP3 years agoDoes Ebay contact you so you can send proof or do they handle those things themselves? If this happens the credit card company is going to contact ebay not me

·3 years agoEbay won't do anything to help.
Ebay will contact you and let you know the buyer is doing a charge back and I think you get to upload one image to prove your case if you want to fight it.
When the credit card decides for the buyer, they will keep the item, Ebay will pull the funds from your account to refund them and they'll charge you another $20.

OP3 years agoDoes ebay give the seller a chance to respond to the claim? If the buyer disputes it they are going to contact ebay not me. I can send the listing to them if needed thanks

·3 years agoWhen the return was requested, what was the reason the buyer gave?
ellengron
OP3 years agoThey said the watch did not fit. It was too small. Ebay said that I didn't have to accept it and I didn't. Ebay closed out the return request. The size of the watch was in the listing

OP3 years agoI don't know that they are disputing it with their credit card or Paypal but was wondering what happens if they do that. Thanks
