USPS Shipping from Authenticator? Insured or Uninsured?
I recently purchased a NEW Alpina chronograph from an authorized Alpina dealer. It has apparently been authenticated and is on its way to me. In the past, shipments from the authenticator were sent by FedEx and were insured. This shipment is apparently coming by USPS — and according to USPS tracking, was sent by Ground Select with only $100 of insurance. For this, I paid $31.70 in shipping charges?
And what recourse do I have if the watch is damaged in transit? Is the shipper using a third-party insurance service? And if so, what is the coverage amount? What is the appropriate claim process in the event of loss or damage? If the authenticator is in fact shipping watches without adequate insurance — which I hope is not taking place — the added risk clearly outweighs any benefit from the authentication process. Should this in fact be the case, I think sellers and buyers need a way to opt out of eBay authentication.

The Authenticator is the one who covers buyers for damage claims.
