Escalation of appeal
Summary: scha-6375 expressed frustration over eBay's handling of a $2,466.74 transaction where a package was lost by USPS after a failed delivery attempt. Despite following all procedures, including obtaining written confirmation from USPS about the loss, eBay has denied the claim based on their policy regarding attempted delivery. scha-6375 is seeking clarification on eBay's signature-confirmation requirement and insurance details, while community members advised escalating the dispute through eBay's formal channels or considering legal action. scha-6375 has exhausted these avenues with no resolution and emphasizes the loss remains unresolved.
Dear Steve,
Thank you for clarifying the policy eBay is relying upon. I understand that eBay’s Money Back Guarantee policy allows an “attempted delivery” status to constitute evidence of delivery in certain circumstances.
However, the same policy requires signature confirmation for orders totaling $750 or more. My order totaled $2,466.74 and was shipped through eBay’s Authenticity Guarantee program. I never signed for this package, nor did anyone accept or sign for it on my behalf.
Your own review confirms that the June 29 event was only a delivery attempt and that the final tracking event states:
“The customer has requested that the Postal Service redeliver this item on June 30, 2026.”
You further confirmed that there has been no tracking update since.
USPS accepted that redelivery request, subsequently lost the package, conducted an investigation, and ultimately confirmed in writing that it could not locate the package. USPS specifically directed me to seek a refund/replacement or pursue an insurance claim for the lost shipment.
Therefore, I am asking eBay to address several specific questions:
1. What signature-confirmation evidence satisfies eBay’s requirement for successful delivery of this $2,466.74 transaction?
If eBay considers the June 29 attempted delivery sufficient to deny my claim, please provide the signature confirmation or other evidence eBay is relying upon to satisfy the signature requirement applicable to an order of this value.
2. For what amount was this shipment insured?
The card was authenticated, packaged, and shipped from eBay’s authentication facility. I therefore did not purchase the postage or insurance and do not have access to the mailing documentation showing the insured value.
3. Has eBay, its authentication partner, or its shipping partner filed or received an insurance claim relating to this lost package?
This distinction is important. eBay is currently treating an attempted delivery as completed delivery for purposes of denying reimbursement to me, while USPS has formally concluded that it cannot locate the package and specifically identified an insurance claim as a remedy for the lost shipment.
If eBay or its partner purchased insurance covering this shipment, I respectfully request clarification as to how that insurance is being handled and who is entitled to any indemnity payment resulting from the loss.
The seller successfully delivered the card to eBay’s authenticator. eBay authenticated the item and subsequently shipped it to me. I immediately followed USPS procedures after the unsuccessful delivery attempt and requested redelivery. USPS then lost the package while it remained in its custody.
I have now spent weeks attempting to resolve the loss of a $2,466.74 item that everyone involved acknowledges I never received. I am not asking eBay to disregard its policies. I am asking eBay to apply all of them and address the documented circumstances of this loss.
Please provide:
The signature-confirmation evidence relied upon for this transaction;
The insured value of the shipment;
Whether an insurance claim has been or will be submitted for the loss; and
Escalation of my case for further review if no valid signature confirmation exists.
I have provided USPS’s written documentation establishing that the package could not be located. I respectfully request that eBay address these questions directly rather than referring me back to USPS, as USPS has already completed its investigation and directed me back to the sender/shipping party.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Jack Schaffer

·3 weeks agoI did not know one can ask the USPS to redeliver an item(small like a letter).
The USPS attempts to deliver once and then it sits at the post office for you to pick it up.
You are given a notice left with you at your mailbox stating item is at post office to pick up. This sounds like a refusal to me where it is returned back to the seller after sitting in the post office for so long to be picked up.
I am only going by what my USPS in San Francisco does.
I thought a refusal to pick it up means no refund and seller keeps item returned.
Just my thoughts but I wonder if seller has item back.

OP3 weeks agoI missed the delivery by a couple hours. The notice stated I should request a redelivery attempt. I did so the same day, for the next day to be delivered. It was never scanned again. USPS said yes, we lost it, sorry.

·3 weeks agoIf the item was a package on a truck by the USPS you get a second attempt for delivery.
However, if it is a small package envelope that the mailman can deliver where you must sign for it...it is by the mailman...you do not get a second attempt...it sits at the post office and then it gets returned if not picked up in a certain time period.
I have gotten 'notices' by the mailman stating attempted...and I go and pick up item the next day at the post office which I have to sign for.
Did you ever go to post office in person?...or just call and expect everything done by a phone call(s)? Are you sure item is not sitting at the post office?

OP3 weeks agoI have visited 5 different postal offices here in town! I went to the main branch, then the facility it left last to be delivered, then their holding facility, and 2 different staging places that happened to be Walgreens partners. I have emailed a dozen different representatives, submitted missing mail requests, and spoken with the local branch managers personally! Literally ever has told me that they lost it. I have written documentation that usps states they never completed the delivery, never made a redelivery attempt, and have no known location for the parcel. I’m not lazy or stupid. I have fully exhausted every option, done the leg work, and jumped through every hoop placed before me.

OP3 weeks agoYes, of course I have appealed the the case several times including sharing every contact with usps, jumped through every hoop that eBay has required, and submitted over a dozen feedbacks, claim requests, dispute emails, and escalation requests. eBay has since denied every appeal and will no longer review my case. I apologize for copying a simple email that was rejected by eBay. I understand Steve is not here. I’m at a loss for how to approach this. I’ve talked with every ai and representative that will speak with me.

·3 weeks agoI agree that this sounds like a claim you should win but as @stainlessenginecovers recommends, you need to go back to ebay to appeal the denial. (We are a community of buyers and sellers and can walk you through issues and explain policy but we're not ebay employees and are unable to see your account or respond to actual claims.)
If you aren't successful in getting through to ebay, you can file a chargeback with your payment provider but please hold off as long as possible since that's a last resort.
When speaking to ebay, stress to them and remind them that per their policy, delivery isn't "confirmed" when there isn't a signature for a purchase that is $750 or more.

·3 weeks agoYou have a well written statement. I would file a Notice of Dispute and use that statement in the Notice.
Consider that you may need to go to Court or have a Arbitration Hearing to resolve this. Use eBay's Notice of Dispute form. Also read Section 19 of the User Agreement.

·3 weeks ago@scha-6375 Why are you posting this on the forum? This is NOT Steve. Steve is NOT here. You need to respond this to whatever communication you received regarding your original request and subsequent appeal denial.
