    is there any requirements for sellers used their accounts for testing out on ebay?

    Summary: sarahlovejoy purchased a Barbie doll on eBay with the description "testing do not buy this," prompting them to ask if there are requirements for sellers testing their pages. mr_lincoln explained that sellers should save listings in draft form but acknowledged that the "do not buy" label isn't binding. They advised keeping an eye on the delivery date for filing a claim if needed. tobaccocardyahoo and mudshark61369 suggested that the seller might not be experienced, possibly canceling the order or becoming confused by payment holds on new sellers.

    @sarahlovejoy ,

    The last two replies may have some validity. However, if the seller has a (0) after their username they probably had no idea that what they did was wrong. No experienced seller would list an item as a test even once much less 4 times. They could have revised or cancelled the listing(s) if they weren't happy with it, but probably do not know how to do that.

    If they listed the Barbie as an auction that had a starting bid of $1.00 and you won it for that price, two things are likely to happen.

    1) The seller will not ship the item because they do not know about the 21-30 day hold ebay places on all new sellers first several payments. On their account the payment status shows Pending, so they do not think they've been paid, and likely will not reply to messages about shipping, thinking it's an attempt to scam them some how.

    2) The seller will try to cancel the transaction either because of the hold, or the sale price, if the listing was an auction. Unfortunately, ebay encourages new sellers to start auctions at a low price "To encourage bidding" which almost never works for the seller. Experienced sellers will list an auction with a starting bid price that is the minimum they will accept if there is only one bid.

    The seller is likely to cancel your order.

    They might attempt to get you to cancel the order.

    They think they were clever, but weren't. Perhaps you can be part of their education.

    Hi @sarahlovejoy

    Some inexperienced Sellers may tool around with stuff like that but they risk getting defects on their account. Obviously, they cannot block a sale simply by saying " ... don't buy this ..." That is NOT binding. When a Seller creates a listing they have the option to Save it for later and it will move to the Draft file. From there they can open the listing to preview it just like it would appear on the Active list. They can also resume the listing and launch it live from the Draft file.

    With regard to your purchase, the date you want to keep an eye on is the original estimated delivery date.  One day past that is when you can process a claim. The Seller may have no intention of shipping but if they do not respond to a claim filed against them they will get a defect on their account. They also have the ability to use the Help links and come here and ask questions.

    You are protected by the eBay Money Back Guarantee for 30 days from the latest estimated delivery date:  eBay Money Back Guarantee policy

    You can file a claim via the item in your Purchase History that you did not receive your item one day past the original estimated delivery date and up to 30 days after that.  Follow the steps in the claim and they will lead to an eventual refund.

    You can report a Seller here: Report an issue with a seller | eBay
