I'm curious about Beanie Baby listings
I know they're scam listings but can anyone figure out what the point is?
A search of "Ty Beanie Baby" sorted by highest first brings up sales at outrageous (and ridiculous) prices, all sold by newbie 0-feedback and low feedback users with ebay-generated IDs and item locations at different US cities. I suspect stolen images, either from google or other ebay sellers though I didn't search to verify.
In the past. I saw these types of listings with high-end luxury handbags and for the unlucky buyers who fell for it, those who received anything got fakes from China.
What's going on with these listings?
I'm just curious.

·3 years agoThe last ones I bought were $4 for entire 18 gallon tote full of them.
I just wanted the tote.
I saved 5-6 cats as I have five real cats.
The rest were donated to the local animal shelter as toys. The shelter will remove any parts that could pose a danger of being swallowed.

·3 years agoI once bought a tote full of ugly stuffed animals for the tote too. It was a huge one, brand new. I paid 6 dollars. All of the stuffed animals went into the trash can when I got home. I still have that tote too.

·3 years agoI'm pretty sure it's money laundering. Same with the Disney Black Diamond VHS tapes. Basically get someone to take illegitimate or ill gotten funds, buy a Beanie Baby from you for $12,000 and then -- poof -- your $12,000 in money earned through illegal trades is now clean and all it cost you was some eBay fees that were probably cheaper than what a processional money cleaner would charge.

·3 years agoThat does make sense. Who would have thought that ebay fees were cheaper than a professional money launderer's fees. Plus much safer too.

·3 years agoIf anyone has beanie babies, do what I did with them about 20 years ago when my kids didn't want them. The youngest wanted to play with the beads inside and asked permission to cut them open. I told him yes on the condition that he gave me the cloth bodies (material). My boy had a ball playing with the beads and I used the emptied cloth bodies as a dust rag to clean my wood stairs.
From time to time, I see them in yard sales with a ridiculous price inside those clear cases made for them. Hopefully, no one here invested too much money in them.
