Early cover , 1923, need help with perforation
Got this cover , dated 1923, Washington pair. I have a problem with perforation. Vertical 10, horizontal 9 1/2. Tried many gauges and same result. Can’t find in Scott cat. Need your opinion regarding horizontal perf. Thank you.

·9 months agoHeheh, now you are just trying to confuse... 😊 No perf gauges have been in "American", they are all based on the number of holes in 2cm, which is just less than 0.8 inches.
Hmm, I wonder when that started, and where it started?

·9 months agoAlso I see that the images have the perf teeth of the perf gauge aligned with the holes. It is much easier to match and measure perforations by aligning teeth with teeth. Then the holes either line up or don't.

·9 months agoMy guess is you are using a perf. guage that uses MM instead of inches. U.S. stamps are measured in inches!

·1 year agoOld use of the issue from just before the war, perf 10 all around. Like Scott #462, but could be from the earlier issue, Scott #424 if watermarked. It's not unusual to see these used several years after issue, since they were primarily used for post cards and post card use began to go out of vogue in the 1920s for larger communities, due to the availability of telephones.
