Subject: 11-year account (8k+ sales) Below Standard due to 14 Time Away defects – Advice on appeal?

Hi everyone, I’m looking for some advice from experienced sellers and community managers regarding a sudden defect spike on a long-standing account. Account Background: Account Age: 11+ years Lifetime Sales: 8,000+ completed transactions Current Evaluation Window (12 months): 477 sales Defects: 14 (Defect Rate: 2.94%) Current Status: Below Standard What Happened: After taking a 2-month break and putting my store on Time Away, the vacation period expired. Unfortunately, I failed to track the exact reactivation date and was physically unable to process incoming orders for a couple of days right after reopening. During this short window, 14 orders came in. Unable to ship them within my handling time, I made the mistake of cancelling them and selected "Out of Stock" as the reason. In reality, all items were physically in stock—I just could not process them at that exact moment. Current Situation: All buyers received an immediate 100% refund, and there are currently 0 open cases or unresolved disputes. This was a one-time operational oversight following a 2-month absence, not a pattern of poor service or selling items I don't own. Given my 11-year track record and over 8,000 successful sales on eBay, what would be the most effective way to present this to eBay support or request a manual review/probationary limit? Has anyone successfully appealed a similar restriction with a strong account history? Any insights or guidance would be greatly appreciated! Best regards, Galyna

      Time Away Feature

To sellers who go on vacations and have the audacity to use the "Time Away" feature to notify buyers when you'll be away on vacation during the summer or to visit some distant relatives after a time period, does anyone besides just using the feature also do so in item descriptions of items listed for sale so they can inform potential buyers in advance about a date range they will be out of town and that buyers expecting to receive it order no later than a particular date (primarily 2+ days in advance before the date they leave to go on vacation)? I know there are two options: one to permit sales for up to 15 days while away, while the other is pause sales for up to 30 days while away (this feature makes fixed-price listings temporarily unavailable under this format). Back in 2015, I've bought an item from a seller who not only talked about the item they're selling, but that they also stated in the description to order no later than a particular date if the buyers wish to receive it before then, otherwise the seller behind said listing would be on vacation within the stated dates if the buyers don't order before the pre-vacation deadline. Fortunately, for sellers who permit sales for up to 15 days while away, not only will buyers be reminded before they buy, but that they are informed to politely wait for the seller to be back in town by their stated date to prepare any orders for shipping if they order within their "Time Away" range; which also pushes back the delivery estimate no matter what their handling time says in the aforementioned listings. One seller I remember and did business with back in 2014, a few or so years ago when reading their feedback being almost always positive within every 12-month period, received neutral or negative feedback from a buyer who claimed the seller hesitated to ship, but the seller politely responded saying they were on vacation and had a "Time Away" thing in advance before the buyer made a purchase on the item that was listed for sale. While pausing sales seems to be a better option to not have to deal with hasty buyers, it tends to make buyers assume the seller either deleted the listings or may have quit selling, not knowing the seller does have such listings live but temporarily unavailable due to the "Time Away" thing for the pausing sales. For me as of posting this, later this month I'm going on vacation somewhere for 11 days (that's only a few days shorter than the max limit for permitting sales while away) that I will not say for confidential reasons, but currently have the "Time Away" thing set two days in advance before the date I leave for a road trip first thing in the morning and that the day before I leave for the road trip if anything sold before the "Time Away" thing goes into effect will have buyers' orders packed and shipped at the post office; otherwise an immediate friend or family member being offered to check on the house when I or the people in my party are on vacation may have the package containing the item I sold ready for them to drop off at the post office for me while I'm out of town. But otherwise before the "Time Away" thing is enacted, having such reminders say in the descriptions of any items listed for sale will help buyers think twice before buying and that they better act fast or they have to wait until the date I return from vacation per the "Time Away" thing. Otherwise if they wait too late, then they don't have a choice other than be patient. But as always that I have the automated message thing set up to remind buyers if they make their purchase on what I have listed for sale while away and that they must wait until the day I and people in my party return in town so we can get their orders shipped. I wonder how you guys handle it and have such buyers understand when the system reminded them before they would buy while away on vacation or something for about up to a week or two. Both methods of time away have their own advantages and disadvantages.

What if Every Ebay Seller went on a One Day Vacation?

That would be about 4 Million eBay Sellers.  Just one day.  Like today a Sunday.  What if that Happened.  How much Money would eBay Lose?   Just Wondering.   🤔
