I own a few coprolite specimens and they look like poop, as in the shape. Mine are from prehistoric turtles and look like something my dog would leave on my lawn that dried out in the sun. If the shape doesn't give it away, then if not from a trusted source I'd be hesitant to buy.

EDIT: If it's cut and polished a loupe or magnifying glass might come in handy after the fact. Bone, feather, plant material fragments etc.. Unless one knows what to look for though?
