Your package is on its way???
Summary: In a discussion titled 'Your package is on its way???', css2001 shares concerns about a possible scam involving a fake tracking number. css2001 notes that this scam could be lucrative if an expensive purchase was involved, with a delivery address used to falsely confirm receipt. They humorously mention hoping to receive a keychain as a result of the issue. klhmdg and several other participants engage in brief responses, but their specific contributions are not detailed.
I just received an email from the USPS today informing me that my package is expected to be delivered by Saturday, May 30th. Tracking shows it's a USPS GA shipment from New York. What package?
I looked at my eBay purchases. No new orders. I checked my credit cards, there were no new charges showing.
Then I noticed that the shipping label was created on April 7 and accepted at a USPS facility on on May 28.
Is this one of those scams that's been going on?

·4 months agoI think it’s unlikely, but it could be a brushing scam:

·4 months agoIt could be a phishing email. Does it include a link that you can view without clicking on it?

No, this was an actual USPS notice with a tracking number that can be checked on their website.

·4 months agoYes, could be a return, not unheard of. Seller didn't want the widget back and found an address to dump it. Many reports of this happening, esp with Amazon returns. People were getting inundated with packages.

I thought about that possibility. But it's not one of my items being returned since I never shipped any package to New York, NY.

·4 months agoIt's either a glitch in the system or a tracking scam which if in your case it's not in your purchases then don't worry about it.

I don't think it's a glitch since I received two notices from USPS. I'm leaning towards the fake tracking # scam. If that's the case, then I feel sorry for the actual buyer.

·4 months agoIt could be the fake tracking number scam. That is where a cheap item is sent to an address in the buyers ZIP code. That is good enough for eBay to accept it as delivered. That package your getting could be one of those. Have to see what it is. If it's junk, then it's the tracking scam.

·4 months agoWhat scam would that be?
Someone sends you something you didnt order or pay for?
Doesnt sound very lucrative for the scammer.

It could be very lucrative if the actual buyer purchased something expensive and the seller used my address to show delivered in the same zip.
The scam would be the fake tracking number that's been commonly used.
I'll have to wait until Saturday to see what I receive. I'm hoping for a keychain. 🤣

·4 months agoThis has been my interpretation of the tracking # scam: Seller receives an order and payment. Seller (somehow) finds an address in the same zip code (don't know how they do that). Seller sends some little widget or an empty envelope to that address. Buyer does not receive his purchase by the EDD so opens an INR case. Case is disallowed because there IS tracking proving delivery to that zip code.
Was on one end of that myself recently. Receives a very small, very empty tracked envelope. Tracking # on envelope is to my address. Name on envelope is I. N.

I recall reading that this happened to you also. Since this was a label from over a month ago I'm curious if there will be a return name and address.
