Why is eBay International Shipping so outrageously expensive?
Summary: -neal questions why shipping from Canada to the USA is significantly more expensive through eBay International Shipping compared to direct shipping via FedEx. They highlight that even after excluding tariffs, the cost difference is substantial. -neal suggests that eBay profits not only from fees but also by offering sellers a reduced discount on shipping that is less than the discount eBay receives, implying that the system may be exploitative.
Just wondering
Canada to USA direct via fedex, arrives in about 4-5 days $60'ish USD
Canada to USA via eBay international shipping well over $100 for the same item. Same address, etc.
And I'm not talking about the asinine Trump tariffs, those only amount to about $17 and that's a whole different conversation.
Ebay already makes a profit off of every item you use their shipping labels for, but why is EIS almost 2x the cost/profit?
FYI, if you didn't know ebay gets a huge discount on shipping due their volume of shipping, then they offer sellers a discount on shipping, but it's not the entire discount they receive. Making a profit on every shipment besides the fees they charge sellers. It's a scam for sure, and also a different conversation.
