Why Aren't Casino Chips Eligible for the Ebay Standard Envelope?
I occassionally sell collectible casino Chips. It would be nice if these could be shipped by ESE. They are for the most part a coin, and dfinitely fit all the crteria to qualify. Oh wait, I just remebered. Ebay makes money on the postage we purchase and it wouldn't make sense to allow every item that qualifies to ship by this method. Ground advantage really messed a bunch of us up by eliminating lightweight parcels with First Class.

·4 months ago@farnorthsid Those 2 are STILL the same. You must be referring to 'First Class Mail'- which is an envelope/post card with a STAMP on it- which included NO tracking.
First Class Package was simply words that were replaced with Ground Advantage with the difference being a person can use GA for packages OVER 16 oz...where First Class Package back in the day was only 15 oz and below, but did include Tracking.
Now, First Class is ONLY 'Mail' with a stamp and does NOT include any type of tracking.
That's where the ebay only envelope came about.

·4 months agoVery few people understand the postal machine that handles letters/ cards/ regular envelopes. The envelopes have to be thin and also be able to bend. They go through many twists and turns through metal rollers that move them forward. Anything too thick or stiff will not go through.
Here is a short video showing it working:

·4 months agoCasino chips cannot be sorted by the mail machines as the chips are thick and rigid. ESE is for machinable letters. You can use First Class with a couple of stamps attached, but there is no tracking. First Class parcels have never had tracking available.

·4 months agoFirst class parcels DID have tracking. But that service was eliminated and became part of Ground Advantage. First class letters and flats didn't have tracking and still don't have it.

·4 months ago'First class letters and flats didn't have tracking and still don't have it'...Very true.
However, seller can send a standard envelope and have it certified for a fee that will have tracking.

Because casino chips are thick and quite stiff, the envelopes would not be accepted by the USPS sorting machines.
If you wish to send these chips as untracked First Class Mail, you can purchase a non-machinable stamp at the post office counter (not available through eBay).
