Why am I charged for a shipping label when buyer paid for shipping?
Summary: The discussion revolves around confusion about eBay's handling of shipping charges. brfa_4442 questions why funds for shipping labels come out of their available balance even though buyers pay for shipping. Participants express frustration over the perceived complexity of the process, suspecting eBay of making it intentionally difficult. christworks explains that eBay uses available funds for expenses, suggesting that funds on hold are not yet ready for use, but this only partially addresses concerns. honey_1700 plans to reconcile the transactions themselves, while others voice ongoing dissatisfaction with eBay's system.
Wheni print a shipping label the money comes out of my available funds
When ebay pays me it shows the total they collected from buyer that has the money they paid for shipping plus tax
When ebay pays me it shows the amount and they deducted seller fees. Promoted listing fee .what I paid for shipping label
So what is ebay do with the money they collect from the buyer for shipping? I don't recieve that mony. It actually shows subtracting from the sale the amount I paid

·1 week agoI'm having the same problem. Total sale was 371, fees were 22, Buyer paid $45 for fedex shipping. I received 301 in my bank account. Where is the 45 the buyer paid for shipping? There isn't $45 being held in my "funds" , eBay is going to charge my credit card $45 to send me the URL Code. So where is that $45 ??

·3 weeks agoI have wondered that MANY times, but small sellers are nothing to them, NOTHING. They have under paid me for items several times and I know it, but you really can't communicate with them, so you lose out.

·1 month agoThen why are New order labels coming out of My Available Payments that are about to be released?
Why not off the end, the $ they have on HOLD for for shipping costs?

eBay uses your available funds to pay selling expenses first. If you have no available funds but do have funds still processing, eBay allows those processing funds to cover expenses such as shipping labels.
The reason why it isn't eBay's first choice to allow those funds to be used is because processing funds are not yet available for withdrawal or direct use. When you buy a shipping label using funds that have not come out of processing, what happens is that eBay effectively advances the cost until those funds finish processing. You can think of it as a very short-term, interest-free advance: eBay pays the expense immediately, then deducts that amount once your processing funds become available.
If you do not want eBay to use your currently available balance, you can manually transfer it to your bank account. That will reduce your available balance to $0, leaving eBay to apply eligible processing funds toward subsequent selling expenses.

·1 month agothats how it would seem but ebay isnt advancing you anything they have already collected that money from the customer FOR THE SHIPPING... so why would ebay need to collect it twice once from customer then from the seller? sounds like there is more to it

·8 months agoYou use that money when you buy the shipping label.

·8 months agoLine 1 ---> Customer paid you for shipping based on your listing estimate. This amount was INCLUDED in your "Order Total"
Line 2 ---> The actual cost of the shipping label (if purchased through ebay) is deducted from the above "Order Total" (which included the shipping paid by the buyer)
The same procedure is applicable to sales tax also...paid by buyer and deducted from total.
Note* In this example, Buyer paid 5 bucks more for shipping than it cost, so I made an additional 5 bucks or so from the shipping charge (to cover packing, etc....)

·8 months agoWhen a buyer buys something of yours they pay a total price of the price of the product, the sales tax and the listed shipping. Your account gets that total which includes the shipping. (So you did receive the shipping paid by the buyer. ) From that total you received ebay deducts the ebay fees, the sales tax and the cost of any shipping. That leaves you with a net amount.

·1 month agothats just stupid why does ebay try and confuse the whole matter ? the customer buy your item for 5 bucks and they collect 2.50 for shipping and sales tax then i should get 5 bucks not 7.50 or anything else it just seems like e-bay is purposely making things difficult

·8 months agoThe buyer covered the shipping cost, which was included in the payment you received.
Now you can use that portion of the money to purchase the shipping label.
