Where can I go to calculate registered mail with signature confirmation.
A buyer from San Francisco is asking me to send a 4 pound package by registered mail with signature confirmation. I can't find a site where I can calculate the price. Does anyone know where I can find out the price?

·2 years agoyou can use clear tape for the box and then cover it with the paper tape, it goes right over the clear tape
I have used registered mail for years but only once in the USA
normally I use it for the UK to my buddy for his watches.
the insurance for registered mail is much cheaper,once you get to a certain point say $1500 then it automatically becomes cheaper than priority mail
everyone is forgetting all about the black and red registered label,this is only available at the PO
all of this is just overkill for a simple package
signature delivery is also free with registered mail so I would never add it
I have always been able to track registered mail overseas

OP2 years agoNow the buyer said he meant to say he wanted priority mail with signature confirmation. I think maybe the price I quoted him for registered mail made him change his mind?

First of all, "registered mail" is for International shipments.
I am thinking the buyer is asking for "certified mail" which is for domestic shipment...and you can get signature confirmation with that...4 pounds seems heavy. You need to ask for written signature confirmation and not digital signature confirmation...cost the same. I am not getting a good feeling of this buyer.
Maybe inquire about an "adult confirmation". No customs form needed for domestic shipping. There is a tiny form to just fill in the address for certified mail.
Normally I would just send your 4 pound package in a box and ask for signature confirmation through USPS. Not sure of the dimensions of the package but if you can put it in a Priority Mail box which is free at the post office...you will need your own tape. Can pick up box anytime for free. Insurance for $100 is included.
This is what I do when I have paper things to ship...very hard box. $10.20...

I'm not sure I understand everything you said, this buyer has always asked for priority mail with signature in the past now he is asking for registered mail in a box with signature. I just go off the phone with Stamps.com and they walked me through the process of registered mail with ground advantage at 4 pounds with signature confirmation and it came out to
$30.32. However this is their discounted rate they did not tell me what it would cost if I went to the post office and shipped it their. Should I just add about ten percent to this amount? Would that be enough?

Yes, I'm shipping from USA to USA. I actually just got off the phone with stamps.com and they gave me the registered mail price, and I also spoke with a person at the post office today and they also gave me a registered mail price from USA to USA.

·2 years agoI am assuming it is costing a lot because I never known anyone to use it in the USA to USA. Most sellers use certified. It's the first I heard of it from USA to USA. I assume the buyer will still go with it after the buyer hear's the price.

·2 years agoRegister Mail is for a few more things other than International Shipments.
If you are sending too much cash it is required to go by Register Mail. Anything with a lot of Value, Register Mail is the way to go if you want to insure the full value.
You also have to purchase Register Mail in person.

Registered mail is very commonly used for USPS domestic mailings where insured value is high, and for items where added security is a concern.

·2 years agoSince I usually wait in line at the post office for a clerk almost daily for years...I have never seen it.
How would I see it? Waiting in line you can see the forms people use for mailing items. And I live in a city of around one million people.
Are you saying you can do registered mail online with no forms then?

·2 years agoNo, you have purchase the Register Mail feature in person. You can check the price online but you can not purchase the service online. It is not Registered until an authorized USPS Agent seals it and accepts it.

·2 years agoWe could have saved you those phone calls if only you had provided the details need to figure out the cost, such as item value and the shipping ZIP Codes. Ten percent doesn't sound like enough. Ground Advantage postage for 4 pounds ranges from $7.40-$12.47 online and $9.55 - $19.00 retail.
Since you haven't shared the ZIP Codes here, you can use the eBay shipping calculator to figure out the retail Ground Advantage postage cost, and add that to the Registered Mail and Signature prices that were provided upthread.

Yes, I went to my Stamps.com software and there's a box that says Add'l Options and when I click on it, there is a box for registered mail.

Go directly to USPS. I do not think any of the Online places would show the cost since they can not sell it to you.

I actually went there previously however I can't find the area where I put in registered mail. Can you show me where it's at?

·2 years agoIf you do use Register Mail make sure the package is sealed around all seams/openings with a paper type tape and not these plastic type tapes. USPS will seal the package by stamping all around the sealed tape so the tape has to be one that will asorb the ink. Something like a fiber reinforced paper package tape works well.

Are you saying I can't use clear shipping tape to seal the package?

exterior has to have tape that gets a cancellation date stamp used at every seam. Clear tape not allowed.
Registered mail is generally used for high value item, stocks, bonds, negotiable certificates. Anything that needs an extra level of security. Gets recorded and signed for all along the way. A slower process.
Not sure why your buyer wants "registered" for a $222 item.
Insured with "restricted delivery" would cover all the bases.

Can you tell me where I can buy this type of the tape? Is the post office the only place for it?

still very odd that the buyer is asking for that service.
Someone may have posted this already, (not going back to reread) but I think your buyer is confused about the service. It is total overkill for $$ value being sent.

·2 years agoThat is what I am saying. There is a small roll of tape sold at office supply stores that is self sticking, it is called Kraft and it looks like paper but I am not sure how ink would work on it. I have always used the (kraft tape) Fiber Reinforced Paper Tape that you have to wet with a sponge and then stick it to the package.

·2 years agoYou can get priority mail with signature confirmed delivery thru ebay labels. Registered i am not sure if you can print the label thru ebay. I have used priority signature confirmed delivery using ebay labels.

I'm not going to do this thru Ebay I'm going to go to the post office and mail it. I think he is just asking it to ship by ground advantage with signature confirmation and registered mail.

They didn't give me the reason. The value of the item is around $222, and the item weighs around 4 pounds.
