What is the process for 'delayed due to postage assessment'

Seems they sent my package to DC for assessment? I was going to contact them when the first postage assessment came up, but it started moving.... So I was like? Must have been resolved? But no.... Seems they sent the package to DC to handle the assessment. CA to UT.

Normally USPS has been reliable, never had these postage assessments coming up, but now they have increased in frequency.

Email received from USPS for the package inquiry.

Dear ,

This is in response to your recent inquiry regarding your package.

The Postal Service processing equipment checks all labels to ensure proper postage payment has been received. It appears we have not received a postage payment for the package associated with this tracking number. It is being held awaiting payment and cannot be processed. If we receive postage payment, you will see additional tracking scans and the item will be delivered to you. If we do not receive postage payment, you will see another scan indicating that we will not be able to deliver the item to you, and the package will be considered Postal Service property under USPS regulations.

Unfortunately, we do not have an estimate on the length of time this will take. We recommend reaching out to the postage vendor for a refund or to explore other available options.

We regret any inconvenience this may have caused.

The USPS started the holiday surcharge fee's on 10/6 ,and they can't added on as postage due to packages shipped before 10/6 . I'm not sure how much help the 6th USPS district consumer affairs will be able to help you out . I have the phone number .

that's strange, I have had a couple shipping labels in the last month or so be invalid when printed, but I can see there is a error when I print the label and then the item still shows as unshipped, when I go to check the label it says "invalid" so I cancel and print another label. I wonder if this is also some type of similar error

does the label show the price being deducted from your account? maybe you can screen shot that and send it to them.

Seems quite odd they sent it to DC claiming no payment, just to send it back.... No one from the USPS gave a decent response. So IDK. Makes me look bad to buyers like I haven't paid for my label. -.-

Was a Uline brown 9x6x3 box. Sealed correctly, weighed 10.8 (post office weight says 10.8 on receipt) submitted payment was for 11 oz. Contained a brand new wired computer mouse, no battery.

I'm curious about more details then you have provided

the details I am wondering about are

what was the dimensions & weight of the package?

and what shipping option was selected?

like, was it a box? envelope? something else, was it rounded on any edge? was it liquid?
are you using any kind of specially marked box or shipping materials?

there has to be a reason your packages are being flagged, otherwise it is unlikely you would ever get more than some 1 random inspection.
