WHAT DO U CONSIDER AN APPROPRIATE SHIP TIME AFTER AN ITEM SELLS????
Just wondering everyone opinion on this. I increase prices so NUTIN will sell if I am out town etc for more than a day or 2. ++++++ I live 1/2 mile from a USPS and 1 from a FEDEX office. I know some ain't that lucky. Most people pretty good about getting things out in a day or 2. Lately seems folks just don't care. I bought something last Wed or Thur and all shows is a UPS track #
Another item took 3 days before shipping and USPS promptly lost it. I no it ain't they fault USPS has lost
In 24, When my regular USPS driver was out and some picked up a few packages and never scanned OR TURNED THEM IN for 4 days, I got some kind of strike against me. All Thanks to that driver.
I know EBAY had to institute rule regarding this cause some would create label and then wait week to ship and EBAY auto filled shipping time
BTW If seller messages me and tells me they out town or what ever, that is 1 thing. But to complete a sale and then take 3-5 days to ship???????? BTW I think EBAY removes honest low ratings on ship time to make seller look better and stimulate business

·6 months agoAll of my items have a 1 day handling time. I ship same or next day, depending on when the item sold, holidays, weekends, etc.
I either have it picked up from my mailbox (in the case of small items or only one or two items that day) or I drive to town and have it scanned at the counter. My contact at my local USPS knows about the need for having it scanned, and she will do it right in front of me so I see that its done. The driver that picks up from my mailbox is the same, he or she (there are two) will scan the package right then and there when they take it out of the box. I usually get a notification of pickup within 30 minutes of them hitting the mailbox every time.
There are days where their system doesn't update however. I know they scanned it, but wouldn't see it update till sometimes a day later. That isn't their fault though, and I haven't been dinged for that yet.
I have had one late shipment in the past year, as I had sold an item while being taken to the hospital for an emergency and I hadn't logged in fast enough to enable the away option. I did once I was at the hospital from my phone, but by then the order was placed. I notified the buyer that it would go out the following Monday, but I did get a ding for late shipment on that one. But that's how it goes.
Just have to stay on top of it. But everyone has a different experience and not every USPS customer/office operates the same. You have to set your days to accommodate your individual experiences. And use the Away feature to prevent a problem if you have an emergency or will be gone for a number of days and not able to ship out items.

·6 months agoI go by what the sellers handling time is. I think a fair handling time is 2 days. If a seller states 2 day handling and it takes 5+ days to ship out that's unacceptable. As a seller I personally do next business day.

·6 months agoYou're overcomplicating things way too much. Just put your store in vacation mode instead. Easy Peasy.
If your tracking numbers aren't being tracked properly, wait in line and have the clerk scan them for you. Not every post office is an expedient about doing this if you simply leave them on the counter.
P.S. Please, turn off your caps lock.

OP6 months ago?? I do not, nor ever had a store on here Yes I think that is one of the advantages of having 1

·6 months agoYou appear to believe that the only way you can put your listings on "hold" or vacation mode, is if you actually have a store. Is that really the case? I thought you could do that with just your listings, not having to have a store to pt on vacation mode.

OP6 months agonever ever had store no idea why people assume so

·6 months agoYou don't need a store to use "time away". That option is under selling tools on the seller hub.

·6 months agoIf I am the buyer, then what is appropiate is what is in the seller's listing. Presumably if I bought something, then I would not have done so if I felt like the handling was too long.
If it is going to past the handling date, then I believe the seller needs to message the buyer and let them know. I think most buyers would be understandable if it was only a day or two.

OP6 months agothat is absolutely correct I understand something could come up but OFTEN would not have bought an item if I knew seller going to wait 5 days to ship to the buyer handling time does not show up just some far off date for ETA

·6 months agoAs far as I know, the seller's only obligation regarding shipping is to get there before or on the last estimated delivery date as seen in the listing.
Have never bought anything on eBay that I desperately needed and have never micro-managed the delivery status or tracking of any purchase. Pretty sure my few purchases have arrived around the EDD.

OP6 months agoFYI a USPS driver picked up some EBAY packages and apparently drove around with them for 4 days , hence NO scans and I got some kind of defects. NO scans for X amount of time

·6 months agoI ship the same day or the next and make sure I'm given a receipt. I don't trust pickup so I take my shipments to either USPS or to the local parcel collection center. I have my handling time set to three days I believe but like someone else said here, my feedback shows that I ship items quickly. I think a seller should try to get the item out in at least five days.

·6 months agoI set my handling time to 5 days. I usually ship the same or next day.
I do so because USPS cannot be relied upon to scan in a predictable period of time, and because I have over 5K items listed and sometimes something is misplaced.
I make a point of finding my auction items and keep them separate because auction buyers have already suffered a delay before they are the successful bidder and I do not want them to stop bidding on my auctions.
My buyers often mention quick shipping in my FB, but if they start bugging me about delays before the estimated delivery date, they will become blocked buyers. I do not need to deal with the impatient and annoying.
If you are one of those buyers who babysits their listings, you are not welcome to buy from me.

·6 months agoI could care less when they send it as long as it gets to me in an acceptable amount of time. Maybe I'm lucky but almost all packages get to me before or soon after the expected delivery date.

·6 months agoWhat is the seller's handling time as shown in the listing?
Buyers need to accept responsibility too.
rosemary6525
OP6 months agohandling time is not shown You see an estimated delivery date far in future
fern*wood
·6 months agoMaybe it doesn't on auctions, but I see it on all your fixed price listings I checked.

·6 months agoWas there not an estimated delivery date when you made your purchase?

·6 months agoAppropriate time is EXACTLY what a seller states is the HANDLING time.

·6 months agoSellers can set their shipping times when they list items. I have mine set for 2 business days after payment. So you buy it today (Sunday) I have until Tuesday to ship. The would be Tuesday at midnight Pacific time per ebay. Now depending on how USPS handles it, it may not show a scan before Wednesday, but it is still shipped on time.
What you need to do is look at the delivery date estimated in the confirmation message you get from ebay, and use a bit of common sense (if today is the 8th and it suggests delivery could be the 9th-16th figure on the later date!)
