weird shipment routing/shipment stuck - any responses appreciated
Hi y'all,
I ordered a phone some 10 days ago, meant to ship from Florida to Colombia. My projected delivery date is May 19th (super slow, when I ordered it said delivery between the 5th and 19th not THE 19th), but the weirdest thing about this is that the phone was shipped in Tampa, then sent to Illinois. Now the USPS tracking says "left with individual in Glendale Heights IL 60139" as of May 1st 9:26am. And no updates since then. I'm getting worried cause it's already a slow delivery, and I have to leave Colombia for a year a couple of days after that, so I'd have to get the phone shipped again if it doesn't get here in time.
The routing seems weird (all cargo planes to Colombia leave from Florida, after all, why is it in Illinois?), the wording "delivered - left with individual" seems suspicious, nothing about this sounds right. I will call USPS customer service when it reopens on Monday. But before I do that, does anyone know if this is normal? I mean it's a shipment over a relatively short distance, I've had things shipped from the US to Australia way faster and for cheaper. No idea why it should take this long or take such a weird routing.
Does anyone have any experience with this? Is it normal for things to go to Glendale Heights IL to be shipped out of the US? Is it also normal to not get a single update for almost a week?
Anyone let me know please I'm a bit worried about this

·3 years agoFirst , you will need to relax. This is a new program. The sellers in this program NEVER get the buyer's home address. The item goes to Illinois with a US tracking #. Ebay will then be in charge of shipping the item to the buyer. The seller CAN NOT DO anything. Yesterday I shipped my first order under this program. I have asked the buyer to please let me know if ebay sends him an email with a new tracking # . I also asked him to tell me the carrier if possible. So you have no choice but to sit tight and wait. You can NOT stop this process now. Once the item arrives, the seller has done his part. It's in Ebay's hands. You will have to wait patiently. If you must leave Colombia, hopefully you have a friend or family member that you trust and can re-ship the item to wherever you are.
The estimated arrival date, those dates are put there by Ebay and of course, everytime a person needs an item for whatever reason, those are the items that will take forever to arrive. There is nothing that you can do. Ebay takes care of the customs forms too. I am not sure about the duties/customs fees.

·3 years agoI'm thinking it will be out of the seller's control once the hub gets ahold of it, at this point they won't have much more info than you do. EBay considers it " delivered" -so, from the seller's standpoint, they are no longer obligated to do anything.
I have had many items sit in customs and/or ISCs for many weeks without updates in tracking, and then one day, it will start moving, and then no updates until it is delivered.
You will most likely see your phone, but it will be on or just after the EDD. Not encouraging, but the average experience.

OP3 years agohi y'all, thanks for your replies.
I called USPS and found out that the tracking number is supposed to be different once the package is shipped out of the US, it's supposed to start and end with 2 letters on both sides and numbers in between. Normally it would be in the shipping confirmation email, but it's not.
I contacted the seller and haven't gotten a reply for 2 days. Starting to get worried.

·3 years agoThe usps tracking number wasn't an international one because the seller was mailing the package to Illinois, not out of the country. From there, Ebay International Shipping program will forward the package to you via another carrier. The way that I understand it to work is that you will receive a different tracking number for the rest of the journey. It is possible that the package has already left Illinois but that the program hasn't yet given you the tracking number.
I would appreciate it if you would let us know at what point you get the tracking number how long the packages takes to arrive after that

·3 years agoWith the new EIS program, Ebay becomes the responsible party for the item once it arrives at their shipping facility. The seller would not have a new tracking number nor any further information other than the item was delivered to Ebay's hub. Although, it would be nice for them to refer you to the info on the EIS program.
Here is a link to the information Ebay provides.

·3 years agoThere's nothing weird and nothing to worry about at this stage @giozanic_9.
As others mentioned, eBay offers US-based sellers a service called eBay International Shipping. Seller ships domestically to a hub in Illinois and their job is done. The hub handles customs and international shipping to the buyer.
It's common for packages to sit at the hub for a week or two, depending on how much volume they're managing.
The delivery date range provided by eBay for all orders is an estimate, not a guarantee. If you check the listing and your order, you will see the word estimate.
When an estimated delivery range is shown, buyers can't file non-receipt claims until after the latest date.
You may see the estimated date adjust to be sooner or later than currently shown after the package leaves the hub in IL.
If you have a strict deadline for acquiring an item either:
- order early enough to account for common shipping delays
- order from a retailer that guarantees a delivery date
- buy locally
When you purchase on eBay, you should know those delivery dates are always estimates. When shopping internationally the package can take long routes, get held up if there's a delay (weather, volume, carrier mis-routing or otherwise) in the originating country or the destination country, delays leaving or entering each country, delays at customs and more. While part of that is built in to the estimate (the reason you see a 2 week range of 5th-19th) and the estimate is generally pretty accurate, that range doesn't cover all possible outcomes.
Hope that helps.

·3 years agoNothing seems unusual here. I live in the US and every item I've ordered from another country, the UK, Japan, Australia, all take weeks to arrive and no there is no constant communication. The tracking is there for you to view and follow if you wish to, but you should not expect messages telling you every stop the package will make. You are posting only on the 6th so you still have plenty of time until the "estimated" delivery date is reached.
This was most likely sent to the Int'l hub for eBay, and they will then ship it to the buyer. You should never look at ordering packages as simple geography. Nothing says the package will be loaded on a plane in Florida and flown directly to Columbia. Hang on for longer, no reason to think the worst at this point. Best of luck to you....

·3 years agoI believe its the shipping hub for the new international shipping program.
Anything moving internationally can take days/ sometimes a week or more depending on available vehicles to handle whatever volume is moving through.

·3 years agoTo add, when a freight forwarder is used, USPS considers it " delivered " when the item arrives at the forwarder.
From there on, it's in EBay's wheelhouse, according to their new shipping program.
Delays are also normal. Hopefully it moves soon.
