Week-long shipping delays
I've been seeing a trend lately from multiple sellers in multiple "reported" locations. One yesterday and another today, one last week, etc. About 50% of the orders I've placed have been similar. My first experience with this was finding a fairly local seller to support (Support Local Businesses when possible!) expecting to receive it in 4 days tops (it's under an hour drive on rural roads). Asked a week later, explaining how I ordered this because they said they were local. CosyMart100's reply was "Sorry now we do not have items in Schenectady NY, only have items in Fontana, CA. We did not change the address because the system not allowed". I canceled the order because the misrepresented where they were located.
Most recently, an item supposedly in NYC got "shipped" on Nov 2. Last night I asked why it was taking so long to ship, they said it was lost. Tracking says it departed a partner site in the 3rd, but USPS never saw it.
I'm suspecting that there is a large group of sellers (virtual or not) that hold orders till they are received from China then shipped from wherever they say the item is located. I have no problem ordering direct from China, and may just doing that more, considering the shipping times are so similar. So far I've experienced sellers saying they are in NY, Cali, and the Carolinas that are doing this. I always pay immediately (buy now) and expect ACTUAL shipping with 3 days or so, not just a label being printed.
Has anyone else been seeing similar seller "shipping" activity? Amazon is looking better and better with every other ebay order. I haven't had shipping issues with them yet.

Believe it or not, 90+% of the chinese sellers drop ship from huge warehouses in China, they do not have their own warehouses. Why else do you think so many have the same items with the same photos and listing layouts?

You should have qualms about ordering directly from China, for several reasons. The most important reason being after sale support, and the lack of manufacturing quality control. If the shipping times are similar that's a dead give away if an item is supposedly domestically located has a similar estimated delivery time frame. .

You can add a couple more port cities in Texas, Any city along the Hudson in N.J.. Miami, Glendale Hgts. Illinois and nearby locations, Commerce Ca. Erlanger Ky., and more to your list.

OP2 years agoThanks for the great reply, it has me re-evaluate the value of these "issues". In a way, I am actually gathering data on sellers that seem to be better than others. My hope is to create a list that can direct buyers to for sources of parts for a couple of specific projects. It's easy for a seller to judge a 1-off sale as a trivial when it's testing the waters for things-to-come (like grant-funded projects). Judge sellers by how they handle transactions that go sour, not by how well it goes. As a buyer, I'm mindful to treat sellers with the respect and to honor the spirit of good trading practices.

Placed a couple orders that were supposed to arrive in a couple days and about a month later, got them from China.
If it's not being shipped by Amazon, I won't buy it anymore.

·2 years agoSorry, perhaps I'm incredibly dense, but I don't understand the issue.
Every listing has an estimated delivery date. Before buying, I check that date, maybe add a day or two to it, then decide if I can wait that long.
Fast forward to that date, if I have not received my item within a day or two after, I simply open an INR case.
So I've been doing it all wrong for at least 20 years? Amazingly, have never had to open an INR case, however.

·2 years agoWell you already ordered from China and you left negative feedback for them. Why would you say you have no problem buying from China when you did have according to your feedback. For the most part you seem to be very satisfied with ebay sellers. The neutral feedback you left for a seller who admitted they made a mistake and refunded you. As long as you receive your items purchased within the sellers shipping time that is all a seller can do.

OP2 years agoI've been ordering locally, regionally, and nationally, expecting items to be in-stock at those locations. It has been taking over a week for them to actually ship. They print a label making it look like something is happening while the shipper waits for their weekly international drop-shipment, they divide it up into orders and supposedly ship it from there. It's "just in time" warehousing, they don't actually have the stock they say they have on-hand. They are misrepresenting what they have and were it is. I give sellers plenty of time and respect lead-time, but saying something is stock in NYC and having to wait a week before it ships 150 miles north is just wrong. I'm so sick and tired of it I signed up for Prime.

·2 years agoJust because something is in stock does not mean the seller will ship it right away if they don't state that they ship same-day or next-day. I have all of my items in stock, but I only ship twice a week because there is no point in me making multiple trips a week out to my storage unit to retrieve items.
Look at the seller's handling time on their listings and the estimated delivery date to get a more accurate idea of just when the item is likely to arrive.
