USPS No More Saturday/Weekend Transit
Yes USPS will accept your packages and mail on Saturdays, but it now sits in the post office till Mondays, or in this case being a holiday weekend till Tuesday. Its apparently a national cutback, rotten for the money were all paying and then nothing in transit till after the weekend. This includes all packages even priority etc, and all mail and letters. Once the holiday season kicks in this will be really bad. Ground Advantage has already been slower everywhere as it is and now this.

·10 months agothis has been a extended change over a period time of consolidation, some locations that used to process mail now send it to a larger regional sorting center, as long as your outgoing packages are scanned in within your stated handling time then you are off the hook for it. (unless at some point it never shows up to the customer)
Many post offices are also no longer scanning in packages that are dropped off and instead they get sent directly to the regional center so that is where you will get dinged for late shipment.
The fix is to either use the machine to scan them in at the post office or stand in line to get a receipt.
Otherwise you are risking it not getting scanned for 2-3 days, sometimes on rare occasion no scans at all until delivery.
cover your behind and be sure each package is scanned in. The mail is still moving along pretty good.
**another point is if your package never gets scanned in, you have no recourse at all for insurance claims or claims of non-delivery.

·11 months agoFor post offices that are more than 50 miles from a regional processing center? 50 miles is a lot! Well that makes a lot of business sense then. Most of the POs impacted probably have very limited hours or are completely closed on Saturdays due to such little foot traffic. Surprised they didn't do this sooner.

·11 months agoEven though some are small, many of those offices are open on Saturdays and some are Level 20 and above offices.
The over 50 miles from a "regional" includes many, many PO's.

·10 months agoAccording to the USPS announcements, 60% of all PO's.
Our PO which is affected, also houses a USPS training center. Get our best service when the trainees are handling our mail.
A question comes to mind. Which is more reliable, advice from Ebay customer service or the statements of a postal clerk?

@norskmediashop I have no idea where you get that notion from. The post office in my area picks up and scans packages Saturdays and by Saturday evening they are on the way to the next facility.

OP11 months agoBecause that is what they told me, that's why I shared it. Maybe yours is not operating that way but many are as others have stated above in other posts. This was not meant to start an argument here, I was simply sharing what was shared with me , for our area it is a new process, others it had already started.

·11 months agoI know my Saturday packages stay in town until the weekend is over. And have skipped a day here and there during the week.
I am 90 miles from the nearest distribution center.

·11 months agoA seller I buy from shipped an item to me Saturday, it's already at my post office and will be out for delivery on Tuesday. Not at all sure your post concerns a nationwide mandate.

·11 months agoThe official announcement of the changes which apply to POs which are more than 50 miles from the first sorting center, stated that there will be only one pickup at the PO per day, and that it would be in the morning.
There was no mention of elimination of weekend pickup.
I have watched the transition of my PO to late morning pickups, adding about 12 hours to every delivery.
I have also noted that some days there are no pickups, but they are not on weekends at my PO.
They may be using the Canada Post standard, the truck does not move unless it is full.

-I will look forward to an official announcement by USPS on this.
-I have no issue with those folks getting time off if they have already put in a full week prior to the weekend.
-Our local PO is within 15 miles of the next bulk center, items I shipped Saturday within 1 hour of them closing are already shown being scanned into the bulk center.
-Once all of their newer higher volume distribution centers are up and running full speed I doubt we will even notice any delays from the extra weekend time off they have.
-This is certainly nice to know but may wind up having minimal affect in the long run.

Just theoretically running less trucks by delay consolidating along the way. As in my other post, (edited) mail has not been going from PO to the "regional" in the afternoon for many months.

Probably less than 20.7 miles as the trucks likely take a more direct route rather than the interstate.

OP11 months agoWe were told this at our post office and was told it was a new national USPS change, it just started last weekend with no official announcement. Will press them again about it being a national or not................
to update after speaking with them again, how it was explained was, it is a national change. If your post office is not within a certain milage of one of the main processing centers, it will sit over the weekend till Monday when sent on Saturdays. Being a holiday weekend if mailed tomorrow, it will sit till Tuesday. No official announcement , by design on purpose, being a govt entity.

The implementation dates have been slowly being applied to more Zip Codes.
It happens with Post Offices more than 50 miles from "the regional processing facility".
Part of the "Delivering for America" plan with "Save the Post Office". Idea is to lower overall transportation costs. Not sure how delaying the mail for an extra "business day" makes any difference after the "first" day, but it is the rational that it will save $$.
If I get mine to some PO's early enough in the day it does not delay. Later in the day(after morning truck), and it does not make "the regional" in a timely manner.

ETA again......................... from my area this has been an "everyday" thing since implemented.
Truck still runs each day, but the "dispatched" mail only goes to a consolidation point along the way, and not to "the regional" M-F. Saturday PM it does not even leave the PO. I started shutting down on Friday so there would be no Saturday shipping expectation where the delay would infuriate the "amazon prime" conditioned buyers that expect their item "now".

It is not true of mine. There are definitely days in which no packages leave my PO but they are not necessarily weekends.
