USPS "In transit to next facility" loop
I have two orders to buyers that are stuck in a "In transit to next facility" loop with the 12:00AM time stamp on the tracking number for 3 days AFTER scheduled delivery date has passed. Both are REALLY late and I feel helpless. What is USPS doing with the packages?? What can I do??

Oh the dreaded in transit to the next facility !
Been thru this in spades, this is what you do...( poster @b86fiero has given you the link for missing mail)
Fill out online but please use a desktop. Click all notifications to be sent to you. Once you have this done and submitted, a postal worker will contact you via phone ( better than email)
They will contact the destination PO via email and ( don't be alarmed) your case will read Closed on your alerts.
Let your buyers know you are on top of things and keep communication open.
Your packages will show up at some point although one of mine took 8 weeks but I got it!

·1 year agoI would just go to the local post office and ask as they have internal scans that are more detailed.

·2 years agoI had 3 packages like that and two finally got delivered...Florida is having so many problems with their mail.
And Virginia my 2 packages finally got delivered after 12 days...one was Priority Mail...just a letter.
It seems like stuff is taking like 10 days or so.
I wouldn't worry too much. But I did...I keep going on USPS site and looking and looking...drove me crazy.
I did not contact the buyers...don't...let them contact you first. Most buyers know that their mail delivery to their city is slow. My packages were not lost...just slow mail.
On a happy not...my package I purchased on Monday the 20th from New Jersey arrived today this morning Wednesday the 22th in San Francisco...crazy right?...FedEx has it going on!

·2 years agoBig heavy boxes can take 2-3 times longer to arrive. They will pull it and set it aside if they can fit 10 smaller boxes in it's place. If you go to the USPS website look under the help tab and you can start an inquiry to find missing mail. It sometimes bumps packages along.

I'm guessing you worked for the USPS? Otherwise, how could you possibly know this?

·2 years agoI had the same problem...2 envelopes and a tiny priority box. Mine stuff took just as long with the saying "in transit to next facility".

·2 years agoI have a Large Envelope that has been "in transit to the next facility" for the last 4 days. I guess they didn't have any large heavy boxes they could pull so they could fit my envelope in with 9 others.
marnotom!
·2 years agoAny idea where the “next facility†is? I wonder if some hubs are getting backed up and not allowing as many truckloads of mail in as they usually handle.

And big heavy boxes will get pulled and set aside if they can find 10 smaller envelopes behind sorting machines to put in its place.

·2 years agoMy were just large envelopes...so that kinda rules out your idea.

·2 years agoIt is typical this time of year as more packages are shipped.
I had two orders disappear after arriving at the USPS Detroit sorting hub. Been two weeks now. I sent buyers replacements and told them to please keep the originally shipped items when they arrive. I filed a missing mail report with USPS.
I purchased an item Nov 14, buyer shipped Nov. 15. Arrived at Detroit hub Nov. 17. eBay estimated delivery was Nov 18. Arrived today Nov. 22. I posted positive feedback for the seller. Not her fault USPS is having issues.
File a missing mail report at https://www.usps.com/help/missing-mail.htm
Let your buyers know you filed the report and will keep them apprised of USPS action.
Best wishes.

·2 years ago11/22/23 I too have that happening to me in Hawaii. I guess USPostal deals with billions of packages each day & workers/machines cant keep up now. Likely under staffed with too old machinery too.

EBay doesn't use either feedback or DSRs to assess your selling skills although some buyers might.

I was not talking about ebay. The buyer gave me positive feedback but 1 star for shipping time. I posted a question here right after that happened as to why are sellers rated on shipping time. We have no control of how long it takes to deliver. I know because i had 5 stars all across untill he left his feedback.

·2 years agoAre the buyers complaining? Have the buyers filed Claims?
If not, don't worry yet.
Remember there will be postal disruptions at USPS this week which gives you a little leeway.
If there are Claims open, put the tracking numbers in the Claim to show that the purchases have been shipped, although not delivered.
Sometimes, fingers crossed, this helps with the Claim.
Cross all your toes too.

·2 years agoI had this happen twice now. Both ended up getting delivered. One buyer opened an INR luckily it was delivered 2 days later. Buyer closed the case but did ding me for the shipping time. My guess is they will get delivered. Good luck

·2 years agoWhat class of postage did you use, where is the item headed and what was the last scan? If it is 3 days beyond the USPS expected delivery date and there has been no update in the tracking, check USPS tracking not what you see on eBay, start and insurance claim on both packages.

·2 years agoThis happened to me awhile back as my package just kept going between 3 centers for several weeks. I requested an alert and USPS did email me each time, but the packages kept moving. So, I finally called one center in a mid-sized town and spoke with the supervisor and explained the dilemma.
What a nice lady! She asked for the tracking number and said she'd watch out for it. She did and called me back the next day having found it. She rewrote the address and it finally got to me. She had 5 pages of text showing where my package had been. She'd never seen so many.
I realize your package may be going to a larger city, but it may be worth the try. Good luck.

·2 years agoIt's going to happen.......USPS handles millions of packages and some get delayed. Go to the tracking # on USPS site and put for the notification advisory.......so you won't keep checking .......they will email you when the packages move.
Doesn't sound like the buyers are complaining yet.....so don't try to contact them........if they question you, tell them you are checking into it and "given this time of year", please allow some extra time for delivery. I always say........I assure you that if you don't get the package, I will refund you in total...... that seems to calm most down.
