USPS home pickup think I messed up and freaking out
Made my first sale the 16th. Today the 18th USPS picked up my boxes and while I asked for the initial scan they didn’t. I have until tomorrow for it to show in possession since I did the 3 day handling. I’m kinda freaking out my accounts new and I don’t want any bad reviews or the like. What happens if it doesn’t get scanned in tomorrow. Will eBay ding me automatically or is that up to the person I sold to?

·5 months agoDid you print a SCAN (Shipment Confirmation Acceptance Notice) sheet for the carrier who picked up your packages? This piece of paper contains all the packages being shipped that day ( up to 50) so the carrier picking up your packages has to scan ONE barcode at the bottom instead of each individual package -- which no carrier will do since their on a schedule.
After scanning this sheet, they leave it with you as per the instructions on the SCAN sheet. When your carrier scans this sheet, you will receive your first scan ( it will read as: Shipment Received, Package Acceptance Pending) This is acceptable for eBay . The second scan is generated when your package is sorted at your local post office and is off to the distribution center ( it will read: Accepted at USPS Origin Facility). Depending on the distance of your local post office from the distribution center, packages may be processed the day of pick up OR if distance is greater than 50 miles, they may not process your packages until the next day. On weekends, they may not process until Monday even when received on a Friday/Saturday if that distance is over 50 miles. So, you can see the importance of using a SCAN sheet at pickup.
It is also important to look at your handling time and your working days ( this can be adjusted and selected in Shipping Preferences). If you are at a more rural area and that distance is over 50 miles to the nearest distribution center ( USPS Regional Origin Facility) you may want to extend your handling time to 2 - 3 days. The slow down of USPS was announce in 2022 and more packages or processed at a slower rate and traveling by ground instead of air.

·5 months agoNone of the carriers here scan at pickup.
Expect that to become more and more normal.
Its inefficient and time wasting to have manual scans for entry.
First scans should happen at sorting.
If you want an entry scan then you should take it to PO.

·5 months agoRight, as long as it arrives on time, you don't get penalized for a late scan. Only a defect if initial scan is late and arrives late.
They are supposed to scan your packages, but not all do. You might want to talk to your local postmaster about it.

·5 months agoNothing I ever sell get scanned at pickup by either USPS, UPS or Fedex. None of them usually see a scan until they hit the local hubs. This is very normal for some areas.

·5 months agoDidn't what? They are supposed to scan the package for Acceptance regardless of whether the customer is actually present.
I don't believe you'll get dinged for late shipping (an Acceptance scan occurring outside of your Handling time) as long as the package is scanned as Delivered within the Estimated Date of Delivery range shown to the buyer. One ding is not fatal anyway. If this gets to be a regular problem then you might want to push your Handling time a day or two further out, and/or get your packages out a little quicker if possible.

OP5 months agoYea the lady didn’t scan the package at pickup. I asked that she did but the tracking just says shipping label created usps awaiting item. This was 3 hours ago and the office is closed now. So tomorrow is all I have.

It will get scanned tonight, if not, for sure by tomorrow as it will get tossed on the 'truck' to the next distribution center.

OP5 months agoOkay thank you I have been reading more into home pickup and sometimes it seems they don’t scan it until it’s delivered or in the state of delivery or until it reaches a hub. I’ll relax just worried guess next time I’ll just bring it to the office it’s just far away.
