USPS First Class Mail Large Envelope
I'm confused. I listed am item a few days ago. The option for USPS First Class Mail Large Envelope was available, so I selected it.
USPS First Class Mail Large Envelope Max. 13 oz., 15 x 12 x 1 in.
When it sold, I couldn't ship that method. I called eBay and they said that option was no longer valid and is being removed. I tried listing an new item today and the option is still there.
A search of these message boards shows that this went away months ago.
Why am I still seeing it? How do I know which options are ones I can use?
I've tried asking eBay about this, but they are no help.

Between your answers here and a little bit more research I have figured out where the issue is.
I under stand now that the 2 options listed as "First Class", you can't buy them at eBay. You have to go to the post office.
BUT...
The accepted sizes for those are wrong on the seller options. Both USPS First Class Mail Letter & USPS First Class Mail Large Envelope are both listed as a maximum width of 1 inch. You take a letter thicker than 1/4 to the post office, you are not getting the flat mail rate.
They even have the eBay Standard Envelope listed as a maximum width of 1 inch, but it can't be more than 1/4 inch.
@wastingtime101 , Based on the dimensions given by eBay on the sellers options, my Chuckie Cheese tokens did qualify for the USPS Large Envelope aka Flat service. But they have the wrong dimensions listed.

·6 months agoUntil a few months ago eBay's listing form did not accept decimals under the dimension fields. Because of this, sellers were forced to enter 1" on Letters/Flats under 1" thick and eBay programmed those services to appear with 1" thick dimensions.
If eBay were to go back and restrict the services based on 1/4" and 3/4" respectively, this would impact millions of listings set to 1" as that's how it was previously programmed. It would create an insane amount of problems.
As it is, sellers using USPS Letter / Flat generally know what the service is and what the physical restrictions are, so they're not offering it except in outlier cases like yours. Despite dimensions, that lot of approx 40 coins does not qualify to ship as a Flat as coins are not flexible.
Like I said earlier - review that Package Types help page as it's going to be your golden resource here with info on all the physical restrictions. From there, adjust all your listings that don't qualify for the services and/or that you don't want to ship untracked and risk seller protections.

·6 months agoYou can buy USPS First Class Mail Large Envelope elsewhere, like at the PO, or use stamps.
But whether you should is a different question.
You take the risk of losing all item not received claims, since it does not include tracking, and eating any lost or damaged packages because it does not include any insurance.
And you are subject to limits on what qualifies as a large envelope.

·6 months agoThe rep gave you bad info. eBay allows sellers to offer a range of shipping services to meet their business needs, however eBay only sells postage for tracked package services (plus tracked eBay Standard Envelope for limited select categories with a host of other restrictions).
That lot of Chuck E Cheese tokens does not qualify for USPS Large Envelope aka Flat service @baz_57 ! They need to be shipped as a package. Ground Advantage is going to be the most economical option.
I strongly suggest you review eBay's help page explaining package types; it's an excellent resource.

That said, if you ever do have items that physically qualify as letters or flats, you can ship them untracked using postage stamps. Bear in mind if you ship an untracked letter or flat, you will be responsible for refunding buyers that file non-receipt claims as you cannot prove delivery. But like I mentioned, that lot of tokens does not qualify.

Edit to add: That recipe book with the spiral binding does not qualify as a Large Envelope/Flat either, and the binding would get crushed and broken by the sorting machinery if you tried to ship it that way. The recipe book with the large metal ring binding does not qualify, either.
Please review the page I linked above to learn what physically qualifies as a Flat, then update your listings accordingly.

·6 months agoI think the Max is 5 3/4 X 8 3/4 for an envelope.
I mean, that's the size on the scale a clerk at the post office has that weighs the envelope which also has that size.
Sometimes a seller might get lucky and item slips through that size and gets shipped.
Anything larger is parcel so I would think.
And I am only thinking flat and not bulky as an envelope.

·6 months agoYou can offer that service, but it's not one where you can buy a shipping label for it through Ebay.
You either pay at the PO or use stamps, but there is no tracking for it.
