USPS are crooks
Recently shipped antique lamp that USPS didn't just break, they smashed it to pieces. We know how to pack but box was destroyed. Filed a claim, provided tons of pics, etc. and waited. USPS requested we present lamp to office for inspection. Postmaster agreed with damage and they kept the lamp (what was left of it). Figured we did everything we were asked and would get the refund....LOL...stupid me. They denied claim. In my book that's like saying we are dishonest and trying to scam them. I was livid and not going to let this go. Finally, since family works for USPS I got a number of a real person in the regional office who seemed to really want to help. She told me "USPS denys ALL claims and rarely pays". She said insurance purchase is useless and waste of money. She totally agreed they are unethical and have no intention of making good on any claim, no matter how big the shipper is or how much they spend with USPS. What would happen if we all treated our customers like this...thinking we'd be out of business. We have had enough and now use UPS for everything after using USPS for over 20 yrs. Yes, UPS has it's issues too but claims are easier and once you learn the drill they usually pay.

·3 years agoWhen I had a "real business" we never shipped via USPS because they never paid claims. Everything we shipped went via UPS which paid claims filed by "real businesses" who had daily pickup.
Now I only ship via USPS because they do a good enough job with what I sell, and I have enough margin to absorb infrequent losses.

Sounds like positive news for you. The USPS denies ALL claims and still pays some claims (albeit rarely). 🙄

·3 years agoAs time has gone on, they have become less likely to pay damage claims. The other shippers are a LITTLE better with it. Insurance can only be counted on to cover lost items. That too will come under "attack" in the future.

OP3 years agoAgreed. Have had lost boxes that they never found and probably really didn't look for them. They did though find one box once and said they were shipping it back to us. We got JUST the box top with a piece of label on it, no contents, no intact box. It was so pathetic it was funny.
