The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) is proposing a temporary 8% surcharge on popular shipping services to cover rising fuel and transportation costs. If approved by the Postal Regulatory Commission, the fee will take effect on April 26, 2026, and last until January 17, 2027.
Key Details of the Proposed Increase:
- Affected Services: Priority Mail Express, Priority Mail, USPS Ground Advantage, and Parcel Select.
- Excluded Services: First-Class Mail and standard postage stamps are not affected by this increase.
- Impact: This surcharge will affect both retail and commercial shipping rates. For example, a medium Priority Mail flat-rate box could rise from $22.95 to $24.80.

·5 months agoI think eBay will probably adjust their USPS Calculated Shipping calculations based on the newer USPS increased rates, effective late in April, 2026.
These new rates, with this additional surcharge, won't even be effective unless (until) the Postal Regulatory Commission approves them.
So we, as individual sellers, don't need to obsess about whether we need to make any revisions to our templates or listings or shipping policies -- unless we choose to, of course.
