UPS/Fed Ex "Cost Adjustments". Weeks Later
I just wonder how many people are getting P-O-K-E-D by UPS/ FEDEX shipping charges after a purchase was made and paid for. ??
I have been selling on Ebay for 28 yrs(5-20 items a week) and maybe get a few cost add ons a year..BUT here in the last few weeks something drastic has changed? New Managers maybe, In the last couple weeks I have been charged quite a few add-ons for Dim weight adjustments...3 yesterday 1 today etc etc... I got one for $67 from UPS because they said my package was 1 inch less than what UPS calculated. I was told an appeal was filed. Calling CS does nothing as they offer no help and wont blame anyone for this **bleep**.
Also told to use Pirate Bay, or have my label printed by a UPS Customer Store which costs much more money. ..no thanks! I remember the Good Ole Ebay days when both seller and buyers got a fair shake most of the time.

·9 months agoI see it's not just me getting charged weeks later by UPS.
I always round up my measurements and use the same sized boxes regularly. I have a lot of custom sized boxes for shipping my large items so I know exactly the exterior measurements. I use pirate ship every now and then and it's very easy to dispute these adjustments there.

·9 months agoGot two more today from FedEx:
Weight on label 15 oz...billable weight 3 lb. This was a small LEGO set.
Weight on label 35 oz...billable weight 22 lb. This was 9 packs of One Piece trading cards...laughable adjustment.
Wish me luck on fighting these charges. It will be like the first time they've heard of such fraudulent upcharges while this forum is filled with complaints about the issue and folks saying to "check your measurements".

·9 months agoWe just received another fraudulent adjustment from UPS ourselves. We sent an item in an 18x18x8 box. We entered the box as 20x20x10 when we created the label. The weight was also entered high after we measured it (using the same scale we use for thousands of shipments). So we rounded up for ALL relevant aspects. (And the label was generated directly from eBay, so it is not a case of the address having been different either, resulting in more charges...) UPS is reporting the box was 21x21x11. So yes, UPS has a problem.
This happens on an alarming number of UPS packages, even though we estimate high, knowing they round up. Apparently UPS is simply going to say it is larger, no matter how much we pad it... Crazy! If we entered it as 24x24x12 they would probably say it is 26x26x14. When, in point of fact, the box is 19x19x9, AT THE MAX! That's a long ways from 21x21x11........
And yes, eBay is participating in this ridiculousness. Because we tried to contest one recently and eBay told us to pound sand, in so many words. "If UPS says it was that measurement, there's nothing we can do. We just take their word for it. You will not be refunded." This, despite MANY sales from the same listing that were shipped via USPS (and a few via UPS even) with ZERO problems... We are this close to dropping UPS as a shipping option altogether...
Thanks for taking care of your sellers eBay. I see all kinds of reports of this. How many times does it have to happen before, best case, you acknowledge UPS has a problem or, worst case, an easy way to pad their numbers fraudulently??

·9 months agoThe only reason to use FEDEX Ground is price.
When you get a price adjustment from FEDEX Ground, the only reason to have used it is gone.
I wonder what a reasonable seller would conclude?

·9 months agoAnother day, another FedEx cost adjustment...beyond frustrating. Today they are saying a 46 oz pair of shoes weighed 46 lbs. Only thing more frustrating is getting eBay to appeal the overage charge. Explaining the situation takes forever...and that is to just get the appeal process started. I'm sure most people just eat the charge.

·9 months agoWell the U.S. eBay reps and supervisors I have talked with ,blamed inexperience seller for some case's . but blamed FedEx and UPS for unexplained fee charges to sellers later on , when said sellers did everything correct on shipping information . The Supervisor said FedEx has and is their bigger thorn in their side for large number false extra fee's chargers that they have filed dispute case's on.

·9 months agoKnowing this, eBay should create an automated way to appeal the cost adjustment from FedEx. They make it so difficult to appeal this that I'm sure most people just give up.

·9 months agoI agree with you. They need to have something in place to deal with the appeal . Ebay's account is commercial . FedEx Customer service is very poor in last couple years now . They will hang the phone up on people that want keep pushing on shipping service issues and ask for supervisors .

·9 months agoThere was an announcement a few weeks ago that both UPS and Fedex are going to be rounding UP fractions of an inch on the package dimensions. This announcement appeared on the page where you print your shipping labels. Perhaps this is the reason you were dinged for extra shipping costs?
For instance, if you ship with UPS or Fedex and your package is 11.5 x 10.5 x 8.5 you have to list the dimensions as 12 x 11 x 9 and not 11 x 10 x 8.
This is NOT the case with USPS, which still allows to round down up to 1/2 an inch.
Bottom line - this is not ebay's fault - it may feel good to blame them but they are just the messenger.

·9 months agoI am not sure if this is an eBay problem or a UPS problem, but getting adjustments weeks later is more than unacceptable. I quit using UPS after years of shipping with them because of recent adjustments, all from UPS. Poor timing as this is the busiest shipping season and you would think SOMEONE would care. So far, I haven't received any adjustments from FedEx and I really like the staff at my local office, so if it were to happen with FedEx, I may just buy my labels through my FedEx account. (My last adjustment from UPS was a totally bogus measurement charge so doubt I will ever go back to using them.) Not sure if they are providing correct shipping prices when you purchase labels through eBay, but you would think eBay would care as much as UPS should care.....but, either way, why in the world would a company want to tick off eBay sellers???

·10 months agoSee if you can get your own FedEx account. They have many options, however, you may have to have a physical business location or volume to get the rates you need to be competitive. I have my own, dimensional weights are removed, I ship based upon actual package weight. Down side, I have to take to the FedEx location, they do not pick up and a heavy surchage on residential deliveries. So my B2B is cheaper than eBay, but residential is more...so that is a factor for selling on eBay as most packages go to homes
Ebay has always said FedEx and UPS rates are just estimates...I know, this does none of us any good. But as a result, I never use ebay's FedEx or UPS shipping options if I can avoid it...about 99% is USPS now

·10 months agoI don't buy ups labels on ebay anymore.
Why? Too difficult to dispute.
Ebays CS not well versed in these matters as its a very small part of ebay.
I use pirateship for ups now. Using pirateship doesn't mean adjustments won't still happen, but shipping is their business.
Ive never lost a shipping adjustment dispute and the process takes less than a minute to submit.
Ebay can't stop adjustments and since its a very small part of their company they won't invest much into handling it.

·10 months agoI quit using UPS and FedEx on eBay for this very reason.
UPS blames eBay and eBay will, depending on who you speak with, blame UPS. They always suggest to file an appeal that nets nothing but additional frustration.
FedEx has been a lost cause for about 10 years. Never again.
I did have an interesting conversation with someone who claimed to be a supervisor at UPS over the phone. In a given month I typically sell an item that goes in the same packaging and weighs the exact same every time. The box is 6x8x29 and weighs 2.7 pounds. I set that as the package dimensions and go 3 pounds, just a little over what it actually weighs. I get the dimensional weight charge after the fact on 6 of 11 shipments of the same item in a month span. She can't explain why its just over half the time and why the charges vary from about $12-30 per occurrence. So I then ask, "well, if I tell you how much it weighs and what the exact dimensions of the package are, why do you get to renegotiate the price later at your discretion?"
"Well sir, that's eBay's fault...."
Sure it is.

·10 months agoI wish I could quit using them. Unfortunately I sell many items that are too big or heavy to go USPS and am stuck using Fed Ex and UPS. Using UPS is a pain for me because of the location drop off and the one time I had to make an insurance claim on a package they damaged and threw out it took months of fighting to get refunded. They often have prices $10-$15 less than Fed Ex and I will use them instead but then they hit me with bogus cost adjustments which end up being more than if I just used Fed Ex. Drop off locations should have to weight and measure packages upon drop off to avoid this. They certainly do some bait and switch pricing.
Both companies are likely raking in 100's of millions annually in these extra charges.

·10 months agoFedex is the worst for that.
That might be Pirate Ship If they told you to use Pirate Bay ???
