UPS Shipping
Summary: junkyardfox shared an issue where they mistakenly dropped off a UPS-labeled package at the USPS, leading to problems and eventually having to refund the customer. shire123 explained that UPS Ground Economy packages must be taken to a UPS drop-off location, highlighting a warning on eBay’s label page. junkyardfox decided not to use UPS in the future. christworks provided a detailed explanation on handling such shipping labels and addressed the refund process on eBay. kensgiftshop reiterated the requirement to drop UPS packages at UPS locations.
I recently had a sale and the customer requested UPS. When I printed the label it said to take it to the post office which I did. The post office received the package and UPS shipped the order to another USPS post office. That post office would not ship it further with the explanation the label was "counterfeit postage extended retension" . This was an ebay label and it seems there was no method to resolve this. The customer was very patient but in the end I had to refund his payment. It would not let me refund the original amount or the amount ebay took directly out of my bank account. What is wrong with ebay?

·3 weeks agoIf you bought a UPS shipping label, you have to drop it off at UPS.
USPS no longer takes packages with a UPS label

OP3 weeks agoSorry you are wrong. Usps had no problem taking my package.

·3 weeks agoIf the shipping was for UPS Ground Economy then you MUST drop it off at a UPS location. Taking it to the USPS may result in the situation you ran into.
When you use UPS Ground Economy with ebay labels it warns you in read that the package must be taken to a UPS drop off location.

OP3 weeks agoThe ebay label does not say any thing about this. I am not clairvoyant. I guess I missed this in my education.

·3 weeks ago@junkyardfox The label does not say that. That warning is on the ebay labeling page where you enter all the data in red.
You don't have to be clairvoyant. Just have to be able to read warnings that are in red.

OP3 weeks agoI have solved the issue. I will no longer accept any order with UPS shipping. One mistake is mine. There will not be another.

·3 weeks agoBe careful with FedEx too. FedEx Economy also requires dropping off at a FedEx location even though there is a USPS tracking number on the label. (and also the warning in red on the ebay label page)

·3 weeks agoSo UPS is at fault when it was your mistake?
This is really simple.
UPS Ground Saver and FedEx Ground Economy must be taken to their respected carriers. When you purchase these labels, eBay will display a warning that directs you to take the order to UPS (or FedEx) and NOT USPS. It can be easy to mix up UPS and USPS, which is probably what you did. It's a mistake. Pay better attention.
These labels will always have two bar codes on them, one for UPS (or FedEx) and the other for USPS. USPS is not supposed to take the packages, but many USPS clerks don't know their right from their left. If you take the package there and they accept it, they will scan the USPS bar code which then voids it. This means that should the postmaster get it in hands of the correct carrier, then when the correct carrier delivers to USPS at the buyer's post office and USPS scans the label to accept it, it will come back as a counterfeit label as that postage has already been used.
The next part of your post says that you had to refund the buyer their payment. Well, duh, they didn't get their item. But then you say you couldn't refund the original amount. When you issue a refund without eBay stepping in, you get your selling fees back. eBay handles this by refunding you the buyer's payment (less taxes) minus the fees owed to you. You then refund the net, and the buyer gets their full amount.
I don't know what you mean by the amount eBay took out of your bank account. If eBay took money out of your bank account it is because you did not have any funds in your eBay account, so they then withdraw from or charge the account you supplied to handle refunds, shipping label costs, etc.
