I read where UPS was reducing it's workforce. I myself consider disposing of customers packages an outrage if indeed fact.
Reduce the workforce then disposing of customers packages because they can't deal with storing them until cleared. If they couldn't deal with the logistics they should never have accepted them in the first place. They knew these tariffs were coming so no excuse.
I already avoid buying items shipped by FedEx for the way they treat the packages I've received.
This will only get worse for any incoming customs items since US CBP will have some personnel shortages during the government shutdown. Although the front-line agents are deemed essential, they will be working without pay.
Ports are adapting to mitigate delays. Operators note that CBP’s law-enforcement role keeps terminals open, though back-office furloughs can slow documentation and compliance work.
To make this a cut and short story...do not buy from someone outside the USA using UPS.
Packages are piling up in customs...some can get returned(I say some very loosely) if sender pays to send it back to himself and others are just be disposed of.
FedEx is getting more business...now...and wonder how much they can handle it.
Rather bad for Canada...where the strike is happening and those were using UPS there for shipping.

FedEx is not a good solution for international sellers shipping to the USA, unless the seller/sender makes sure to use a DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) shipping service, where the seller pays the customs fees in advance.
When FedEx accepts a DDU (Delivered Duty Unpaid) shipment, they actually pay the customs in advance (as required by US CBP) but as a courtesy to the sender.
FedEx's standard process is to deliver the package to the buyer, and then try to bill the buyer for the customs cost after the fact. There have been many reports from burned sellers, that if/when the buyer refuses to pay, then FedEx will charge the fees back to the sender (the seller), who is then on the hook for customs and brokerage fees that are likely to be almost as much or more than the original payment from the buyer.
