Unexpected $66.17 shipping adjustment after the sale: eBay needs a better process
Summary: tomasen-6 expressed frustration about an unexpected $66.17 shipping adjustment on eBay, despite purchasing a USPS label through the platform and having a settled transaction. The charge led to confusion over the actual sale costs and the lack of a detailed process for challenging such fees. 1786davycrockett suggested the adjustment might be due to a fee for oversized packages, and others shared their own experiences with similar issues. oiotopsales noted repeated problems with inaccurate weight charges, particularly when using USPS, and criticized the customer service process. kalyoth argued eBay isn't at fault, emphasizing sellers need to provide accurate shipping information. The discussion highlights dissatisfaction with eBay’s handling of shipping disputes and the desire for better coordination and communication from eBay's support team.
Today, I suddenly received an unexpected $66.17 shipping adjustment deducted from my seller funds. This is few days after the item was delivered,
I set the item as buyer pays for shipping, and I purchased the USPS shipping label through eBay.
There was no advance warning giving me an opportunity to understand or challenge this particular charge before the money was taken out of my account.
When it's the buyer pays shipping and the seller purchases the label through eBay, yet the seller may receive an additional charge afterward, that's not right because it makes it difficult to know the actual cost of a sale or what you will ultimately receive.
For a platform as large as eBay, I expect better. I mean, I checked the weight beforehand, and it's within the allowed limit on the shipping label I purchased. Why there is no warning about this when I purchase the shipping label? How can eBay simply take my money without my consent? And, why should the seller carry this uncertainty after the shipping amount has already been quoted and paid? Has anyone else experienced this, and did eBay address the process meaningfully?

·3 weeks agoThis just happened to me and is kind of similar:
I JUST SOLD A CHAINSAW ON EBAY AND HAD THE SHIPPING CALCULATOR SET FOR FEDEX HOME DELIVERY AND EBAY CHARGED THE CUSTOMER $52 FOR SHIPPING. THEN I PREPARE THE ITEM FOR SHIPPING AND DIMENSIONS AND WEIGHT ARE THE SAME AS ITEM LISTED FOR ITEM ON SALE; BUT EBAY CHARGES ME $65 INSTEAD? WTF?

·3 weeks agoLooking at the listing you may be talking about, just under $15 to ship to me in Oregon if it is the pool cleaner. There is no way that would cover shipping. Tells me that you did not have the correct box size/weight information in the listing and now are getting hit with correct shipping cost.

·3 weeks agoYou can't blame ebay for this issue. Shipping costs lie between the seller providing accurate shipping dimensions & weight - & what the carrier actually measures for dimensions & weight. The carrier charges ebay whom charges you.

·3 weeks agoALWAYS ship large items with FedEx. USPS is ridiculous in price... however I agree with this main point the OP is making. It's happened multiple times with tennis racquets oddly enough. I was charged 12lbs for my tennis racket and they raised the rate as I am in the midwest and it was going to CA. Obviously no tennis racquet in the world weighs 12lbs and another package must've been on top of mine when it was scanned as my dimensions were also updated although I can't remember specifically how much. ANYWAYS, I literally paid $6 to send that racquet and discovered it weeks later. I never followed up with eBay and just ate the loss like the 3 other times before. It really is a poorly excuted system on their end for such a massive business. I don't even know how to go about disputing it as it is a nightmare trying to get a phone call from the AI assistant. The whole customer service experience is quite despicable as a seller.

·3 weeks ago@tomasen-6 If you are referring to that WYBOT S2 Solar Powered Robotic Pool Vacuum Cleaner, it's very possible that you were charged the USPS extra-dimensions fee for overly large packages.
What was the weight and all dimensions of the box in which it was shipped?

·3 weeks agoI see looking at the listing, just under $15 to ship to me. No way it would ship to me in Oregon from California for that price.
