Unclaimed/being returned to sender(buyer)
Hello,
The buyer sent the return back but I was out of town taking care of family situation and couldn’t pick it up at the PO. The package was unclaimed and returned to sender. Now the buyer was refunded and ended up with my item!!! I have contacted the buyer several times explaining the situation and asking to send me back my item and I will pay for the shipping but it was NO response.. What do I do? How do I get my $215 item back??

·2 years agoWhy was a $215 item requiring a signature? If you didn't send it with signature the return should not be either since a signature is not required for items (plus tax and shipping) under $750.

·2 years agoNo, meant for this thread. If they had to go get it from the PO then the mail person could not leave it at their residence without a signature.

·2 years agoThat's an assumption. There are numerous situations where carriers won't leave a package including:
- it's an apartment building
- package too large for mailbox
- if person was out of town and mail was piling up in box, carrier could have determined it wasn't smart to leave package for an undetermined amount of time
- carrier determines there is no safe location to leave the package
It's very common for carriers to leave a pickup notice of a package being held at the PO when signature is not required.

OP2 years agoI have no idea!!! I sent it to their residence address and they sent it back to my P.O. Box return address. And I have no idea why they requested a signature?!?

·2 years agohaha so it did have signature confirmation after all.
Buyer had to add that on their own, purchasing a label outside of eBay, because eBay return labels do not have a signature option.
I can understand why you didn't put a hold on your mail since you use a PO Box, but I guess this situation has offered a good reason to use the hold option in the future.
When the PO puts a slip in your box saying a package needs to be collected (or signed for), they will return to sender if not picked up in I think it's 15 days for a regular package. Not sure about the timeline for sig required without looking it up.

·2 years agoYou don't get your item or the money back unless the buyer decided to cooperate, otherwise you are out both and eBay isn't going to do anything about it.

·2 years agoYou’re at the mercy of the buyer now as eBay won’t get involved. If the buyer is not that active on eBay they may not have seen your messages so you could try phoning them. The phone number should be on the order details.
Next time you go away you might want to put a hold on your mail.

·2 years agoWell, maybe. A few years ago I had a medical emergency that put in the hospital for a few days. I called my local post office from the hospital to put a hold on my mail and was told I had to do it in person. Fortunately, I ship so much stuff that pretty much everybody there knows me. So I talked to a senior clerk who knew me and he allowed it.
I guess it depends on each post office.

·2 years agoI don't think they typically do it by phone call. You either fill out the form online that I linked above or you go in person and fill out the form. This is because they need to verify your identity.
I'd say your situation is not the norm, especially today compared to a few years ago. USPS put these identity verification rules in place over the last couple years.
