Stolen package. Doesn't UPS require a signature or leave a 'missed delivery' paper note?

UPS delivered my package, took a proof of delivery photo too. I rarely receive UPS shipments, from what i remember they used to ask for a signature or if I'm not home, they'll leave a note saying they'll come back tomorrow.  I'm trying to file a claim with UPS about them not requiring a signature, therefore if they can't get one, they won't leave my package when there's nobody home, I live in an apt complex with plenty of foot traffic facing a public sidewalk. I've tried to file a claim 5 times on their website  and at the end of it, it tells me they need more info and contact a 1-800 number. Anyone else have a similar experience ?

It's been 30 years or so since they did that.  They just leave it now unless the shipper pays for extra services.

If you are going to need a signature required for your shipments, you will have to inform your sellers/vendors to add signature required when they ship.

Some sellers/vendors automatically add signature required when items are expensive, some do not.

Many of the buyers I ship to despise signature required at their residence because it causes them to have to be home or go fetch their package at times from the post office or wait another day or two for redelivery.

Yes, and offer to pay for it. Always ask before purchase, not after.

They only require a signature if the seller pays for it.

If not, they just drop off the package.

It's at driver's discretion and, unfortunately, the driver that day made a bad choice. UPS will immediately dismiss a lost package claim if the package has a delivery scan and a proof of delivery photo.

If the seller purchased the UPS label through eBay then you, as the buyer, will not be able to file any kind of claim. It's a specific and somewhat cumbersome process and can only be filed by the seller because UPS requires the email on the UPS account used to file the claim match the email on the seller's eBay account.

You'd be better off putting up a note by your building's mailboxes asking if anybody picked up the package to contact you to return it. If the package was left outside the building with foot traffic, chances are some random passerby grabbed it.

Sorry I don't have better news. There's just no real recourse in that kind of situation. Best option is to control things moving forward, like having packages shipped to a PO box if your PO or the mailbox store offers street addressing service (required for UPS/FedEx), shipped to your work address, shipped to a friend/family that has a safe delivery location, etc.

UPS usually doesn't ask for a signature. I live in an apartment building and they will ring anyone's doorbell,

get in , and leave package. If I see a UPS truck outside and doorbell rings...I just let them in even though it's not for me. Have to understand, we have 9 apartments and I kinda take over letting delivery people in my building because I am friends to everyone in the building. We all get along. Neighbors let me know if package is coming and I will look for it and put it in front of their door. I know all the neighbors where we have each other's telephone numbers.

However, I do believe UPS has a key to our lobby door.....it's usually Amazon and FedEx I have to let into the lobby.

UPS does leave a note stating they tried to deliver a package that I would guess "needs a signature". Other packages that don't need a signature are just dumped off in my lobby.
