SIMPLE DELIVERY
I shipped an item that was collected yesterday from my home address at 12.14 via eBay Simple Delivery Royal Mail 48. Today the item is marked as "Delivered" in my Orders but it is still in transit. The Buyer also has the item flagged by eBay as "Delivered". Royal Mail tracking though shows it en route at Medway depot (24-01-26 19.00). The buyer is querying why eBay have marked the item as Delivered when he has not received it and it is still in transit. I assume this is an eBay IT glitch? Anyone experienced this issue?

·8 months agoHi your on the US message board, fortunately I am also in the UK, dont worry about it, you used ebay simple delivery, if the tracking has gone wrong it aint your problem, your feedback and performance should be protected, I dont use simple delivery because I am business and dont sell in the UK but I can say, there is a bug in royal mail tracking where the postie can scan your item when its collected and say its been delivered while they are still on your doorstep, again dont worry about it, let the big corporations deal with it.

·8 months agoPersonally I've had RM show as delivered a few times when it hasn't. I assumed the van driver scanned all the parcels in the van but ran out of time to deliver. In those cases my items usually turned up the next day.
Best UK delivery mess up was with Evri when it was known as Hermes. One day all their scans all showed as delivered right across the country. As a seller there was no real problem with this, as it was so widespread it was reported everywhere so it was easy to explain to any buyer asking where their item was.

·8 months agoI don't know how their tracking system compares with USPS here in the U.S., but a Delivered scan here includes the GPS coordinates for where it occurred, so a carrier who scanned all his packages at once prior to delivery may have some explaining to do if anyone is trying to see the delivery location later on.
I had a giggle when looking up a definition of who Hermes was (I had a vague recollection but wanted to look it up to be sure), and AI gave me this summary:
Hermes is a major Olympian deity in Greek mythology, recognized as the swift messenger and herald of the gods, son of Zeus and Maia. As a patron, he governs commerce, travel, eloquence, thieves, and athletics, often depicted with winged sandals or a herald's staff.
Wait-- what was that fourth one again? 😄

·8 months agoI have experienced this very often. Just had one yesterday. Usps tracking will sometimes show delivered when it wasn't. Best thing to do is write to the buyer. Assure them that it is not lost and still in transit and they will get it in a day or two.

·8 months agoYou might want to pose your query on your home eBay site, UK.

·8 months agoYes, on a low but regular basis. I know you're in the UK but this sounds like exactly the same mistake that U.S. carriers make from time to time, when they scan a package for Acceptance but have their scanner set for Delivery instead. The tracking will correct itself (as you have seen) as soon as later scans occur along the way, though eBay tends to stop updating the tracking as soon as it sees a Delivered scan. You might want to send your buyer a link to the Royal Mail tracking site instead so that he can see that it's on the way.

·8 months agoWhat is "Simple Delivery"? And we don't use Royal Mail here in the States... we use USPS
