shipping with standard envelope for baseball card
Summary: mb_treasures shared an issue with shipping a baseball card using the standard envelope option on an online marketplace, where the provided shipping choices did not match the listed option, affecting their seller rating. Other participants suggested the issue might be due to not listing the card in the appropriate category for eBay Standard Envelope (ESE) eligibility. Additionally, it was noted that using USPS First Class Letter option directly requires handling through USPS rather than the platform. Participants advised checking the correct category listings and understanding the differences between shipping options.
Hello, has anyone else had this happen? I listed a baseball card and selected the standard shipping using a letter sized envelope. which a baseball card will fit into easily. it sold. the buyer paid and they were charged a 1.54 shipping charge for the standard letter size shipping. However, when I go to the shipping screen to purchase a shipping label, there is no option to ship it via the standard envelope size. the weight and size of the package all fit the requirements. the value of the item was $5.00, so the value met the $20 max requirement. but the cheapest shipping option I was presented was usps ground advantage for $5.8, which is more than what the item sold for. I went to USPS.COM and purchased a label through them to ship this item, and they dont offer tracking on letter sized packages online. so it will hurt my seller rating. I reached out to ebay a few times. I got stuck in a loop with their chat bot, and could not get a representative. the next time I tried, the chat bot started talking about ebay plus membership for sellers in australia and germany. but not representative to talk to about it. in the past , I have always been able to get help. but not this time.
anyway this is the 2nd time this trouble has happened to me about the shipping.
has this hppened to anyone else? and what did you do about it?
thanks,
Danny

·1 month agoRemember, too that if you are shipping USPS first class letter, you cant buy that postage on eBay, you need to just put a stamp on it or take it to the post office. Using ESE will give you minimal tracking and some insurance, first class is just simple postage without any protections at all, not a wrong way to ship, just void of any protection & tracking

·1 month ago@mb_treasures I have to agree with @bdmh-enterprises -- your listing for that sold card was listed under "Autographs/Original" rather than the trading card listings.
If you have more of a similar nature, make sure that they are listed under "Trading cards," and not "Autographs," so that you can use ESE shipping.

·1 month agoYou put it in the wrong category. ESE is category dependent. It needed to go in a sports card category not memorabilia to qualify for ESE.
It'll take more than a few no tracking defects to affect your rating. I have started to ship some non qualifying items with stamps since GA has become too much. Just have to keep an eye on the percentage.

·1 month ago@mb_treasures Are you talking about the "Dusty Baker" Card Sold? If so, I'm taking a shot in the dark but I would say your problem could be the result of the lone "USPS First Class Letter" shipping option you provided in the listing rather than eBay Standard Envelope. You said twice...did the other Sold where you had this issue also have only "USPS First Class Letter"? You appear to be using ESE on the majority of the others though which probably aren't giving you the same issue.
