Shipping to Puerto Rico
Sorry to bother, but recently buying from eBay from Puerto Rico is impossible because they consider us as international instead as domestic by USPS. Shipping charges are incredible high. In some cases 4 to 5 times the cost of the product or more. USPS charge the same price for Puerto Rico and to Orlando. Just check USPS. All my friends etc stop buying from eBay and buying from Amazon because the shipping charges. eBay and sellers are loosing sales etc. And there is no way to speak to a person to explain the situation. Hope don't go the same as Sears, Kmart and others. Hope is not a discrimination situation.
thanks for reading

·9 months agoDidn't you know? Puerto Rico is now an international destination for packages from the mainland.... that is according to the Gods at Ebay. The rest of us are well aware that the international shipping rates are killing our sales. You have no idea how many sellers are happy to ship internationally to Uzbekistan, while they are scared to death of shipping to Puerto Rico. As you know us island dwellers rely of online shops and other sources for merchandise we cannot buy directly on the island in part because of the Jones Act. Don't feel discriminated against though - Ebay also considers the US Virgin Islands in the same league... only they don't have 3,000,000 American Citizens living on that island.

·11 months agowhile there could have been some error that you have noted has corrected now, the problem in general when shipping outside the continental usa is it all depends on the size & weight, yes small packages are almost identical cost and flat rate are all the same, the issue arises when the item purchase in question is not a small packet or flat rate compatible, when it is a larger & heavier item. The shipping rate is increased sometimes substantially. So some sellers avoid the situation by not offering items outside the 48 states.

It is still my contention per my previous post that either it is an issue with PR being selected as the "country", or the shippers involved chose not to ship directly to PR and the item then ships by the eIS program resulting in much higher $$ for shipping.
example of shipping cost when It is shipping at USPS zone 8 cost.

OP11 months agoSir, USPS said that is the same cost and this never happens before. We have no problem with Amazon and other companies. I think eBay is loosing a lot of sales.

The problem in your case, I believe, is that you are not registered in USA, but in PR.
Had you signed up in USA and used PR as your state, eBay would handle your transactions domestically.
I don’t understand why eBay has the two options. I think it can happen to Guamians.

OP11 months agoI already registered in US and this never happens before. Starts about 2 or 3 months ago. I eBay is loosing money and try to compensate with the shipping. Amazon and others are killing eBay. Amazon have 37% of US eCommerce market and is the top one eBay have only 3% and going down -14%. please read the link I post before. If I need help from Amazon a Real person answers the phone eBay is only a computer. eBay Is going the same way like Sears etc. Again USPS said is the same shipping charges. Why is the product cost $10 and have to pay $30 or more for the shipping. Can somebody from eBay explain me and others. Even from china and other countries cost less and some offers free shipping
Thanks for reading and start to look for another business, is Amazon opens a business like eBay is going to be the end of eBay .

Give us an example of a listing that shows the inflated $$ shipping costs. Does not have to be something that you are interested in purchasing.
That may help someone to assist in determining what the issue is.

OP11 months agoThanks for your response. The problem start a few months ago. If you enter a zip from Puerto Rico the shipping charges for example said $50.00 and if you change the zip to Orlando US the shipping charges drops to $10.00 for a product that cost $15.00 and use USPS. I receive the mail via USPS . Make yourself a test. Using the eBay shipping is impossible to buy. I have no problems using Amazon. I am sure that we are not the only one having the problem. Any way the sellers are loosing sales. Please read this article and let me now { https://capitaloneshopping.com/research/ecommerce-statistics } eBay is loosing sales. I buy about 60 products from Amazon in the last 3 Months and about 4 from eBay
Thanks

·11 months agoThere a difference of over a thousand miles between Orlando and PR. That's a lot of shipping service and fuel with no choice for it to go by land. No shipping service can subsidy that or give it to you for free. If you refine your searches to sellers from the South Coast (try 1000 miles) you may find cheaper shipping options. It's on the left side of the screen under item location.

·11 months agoUSPS cost from Key Largo to PR would be the same as from Orlando to PR.

·11 months agoIs this a recent change? Last I knew shipping USPS via eBay was considered "domestic" shipping.
Some issues if the buyer listed as "country" PR, but other than that no issues.
FedEx/UPS........... shipping cost higher like it is international.
ETA: some sellers ship to PR only through the eBay International Shipping (EIS) program. The shipping cost with that program is much higher than direct USPS shipping.

·11 months agoI've sold several things to PR buyers recently and they were all the same shipping as to FL through USPS.
FWIW, I ship direct (no reason to use EIS as PR i considered domestic) and at least one buyer used PR as the 'country' rather than US.

·11 months ago"Shipping charges are incredible high."
Shipping cost has gone up with every carrier and will continue to go up.
"eBay and sellers are losing sales"
It really varies by seller.
"there is no way to speak to a person to explain the situation. Hope don't go the same as Sears, Kmart and others. Hope is not a discrimination situation."
You need to go to "chat box then type in what your issue is then keep on typing "speak to agent." Then have Ebay call you back. You might want to ask any questions you may have here first rather than calling in. You could save yourself time. If its about shipping cost then Ebay can't do anything about what carriers charge. There is no discrimination happening.
